Those of you who say it was written by goat herders are more ignorant than those who wrote it. It was likely written by the most educated people of their time. It served the purpose of controlling the people of the time. And does a pretty good job of maintaining that control even until today. Say what you will about its truthfulness. It has been one of the most useful books throughout history for keeping control of the people.

It was written by a bunch of people that were smarter than the masses. You are absolutely right too. It's kept the minds of people under complete control!

I dont see it as so much control as a guideline that people can use to make the world a more civil place. Notice I didnt say civilized, because that's a different area. I'm what could be considered a Christian but I dont ascribe to any formal religions. I'm a little leery of the Bible having been inspired by God, but that's neither here nor there. As you said, it was no doubt written by educated men or at least as educated as men could be in their time. It is fairly remarkable that the Bible still exists today and also the stories of Jesus and his apostles. I do regret the terrible things that have been done in the name of Christianity and I hope the good that has been done will far outweigh the bad.

The bible was written many years after Jesus died by people who wanted to control the underclass and women. It worked, as the males who wrote it threw out Mary Magdalene's writings and other's writings who did not think a patriarchy was good for the human race.

Indeed it has been supported by males who continue to want the power and control over 'believer's' lives.

Only the educated could write, so they must have been men of consequence. They were the ones with the most to lose if women's power was acknowledged.

Wicca has remained alive and well, under their very noses for thousands of years.

Blessings to all ~

The Bible was written by about 40 men over the course of 1500 years; Moses - 1400 B.C. to John - 90 A.D. These books are the inspired word of God. These men came from all walks of life, Matthew was a tax-collector, Ezra was a priest, John was a fisherman, Paul was a tentmaker, Moses was a shepherd (raised by King). Each author is unique as is the Bible for its history and its prophecy. The books do not contradict themselves. The New and Old Testament authors lived hundreds of years apart. It is the only book that states it is the written word of God, by God.

Why do you say it controls people. People have always had the ability to accept or reject what it says. The bible or at least the old testement was writen for the Jewish people, a very small group of people. Even today only a little over a 6th of the population claim to be Chrisitian, and then most do not truly follow Christ Teaching.s

Well you got one thing right. It was written by educated men, but you forgot it was written under the inspiration of God. Well if you think it is control why are you reading it.

It was written by educated people, ones who whated to CONTROL other people. It was written to consoldate an empire. It had nothing to do with religion per se only that religion is designed to control people. And you seem to think that controlling people is good.

There is an edge to your selection of words that suggests that you don't approve? It's a fine line between education and control. I think that the Bible is the true word of God and prefer to think of it as enlightenment. But if you don't believe, I guess you would have to think of it as control.

The Bible is all true. Jesus dose not lie. The people who wrote in the Bible wrote what God told them to write and that's why its so amazing...

I agree. I believe the Bible is about half-true.

Most of the history is pretty accurate, the counsel in the Proverbs is wise, and a few select prophecies have ultimately come to life.

There is admittedly quite a bit of error though.
