My father-in-law went as far as the 8th grade in school, He had to quit school to work on the family farm. He died a multi-millionaire. While he didn't have a Master's Degree, he was smart, sensitive, a good listener, had good common sense, and worked hard (very hard) for a living.
I fear today's 'people' are quite willing to not get the schooling...., but they're not willing to do the hard work that it takes to succeed in life. Remember, you need to be as smart as your lawyer too, or you'll lose your shirt. No one should ever turn their life over to 'others'..... You are at great risk - great risk, in not knowing how to read, write or spell. Choosing to be 'dumber than a box of rocks' is worse than stupid!!! If your goal in life is just to make good money - understand that that is 'fleeting' (in more ways than one). But the cost to the rest of your life, for choosing to be ignorant, for choosing not to learn the basics, is beyond comprehension.
My advise, 'get up off your duff and stop thinking the world owes you a life. Take charge of your circumstances and don't let your circumstances take charge of you! Grow up!"
.........Success is measured by what you give back,
..........................Not what you take.

I agree with two people who posted above. Being a successful millionaire without basic reading and writing skills is a fluke. That cannot be relied upon. A vast advanced education is worth only what you make of it, and may not be necessary, if a person has the requisite do-or-die work ethic and business acumen. But a person who has to rely on his lawyer, assistant, spouse or anyone else to do basic reading for him is making a very rich lawyer or ex-wife, or assistant who takes over the whole company and forces him out.

to read and write, isn't saying that a person can't
speak a language.
First thing they learn is how to sign there name.
second is how to learn to numbers to make sure
they don't get cheated.
There is no such thing as a person that cain't learn
somthing.
The man in Oklahoma City came from Poland.
he learned english.a handy man worked hard.
With in 10 years he had bought 2 construction
companies. in 20 years he was worth more than
3 million,due to investing and buying .
He went back to school and was in the 7 th grade.

I highly doubt I would do business with someone who didn't have a grasp on the English language. Here, I'm going to work with you on a major business deal but you can't even spell my name. Sounds good to me!
I understand that it's possible to get ahead without a college degree, but one must at least have common knowledge (reading/writing) in order to succeed.

There are even teachers who can't read! Imagine... These people are very smart and intelligent... If they can succeed so greatly in life... they have it all going for them. But I would still advise them to get help in learning to read and write...

I call it delegating and having a good assistant.
If you're in meetings or prospecting all day, you should have a great assistant to handle things such as writing.
Now the reading part is questionable.

this is hard to believe...
if they valued success that much i would think they'd also value education.
If they have those resources at their disposal why wouldnt they want to learn??
Most people that are that successful have too big of an ego to leave a major weakness like that hanging out there...

Dear friends ...this is a great question
What is Education ?
What is Work Experience ?
Real Education is what we learn by Doing in real life - in real practice
Real education is our Experience
gained over a period of time
So it is really wrong for us to think that the education in schools and colleges is real education
and that real practical education is not education
Experience is the Beginning of Education
Education in school / college is mostly jus tgaining of literacy level -just gaining of exposure to people
and outdated theoretic -Mugging up sessions
We have to make a practice of doing work since our early child-hood while studying part-time -in evening school or night school
that is what i recommend to people
You have to be on your earnings by the time u r 17 yrs of age
as u may have to enter marital -relationship by this age -and u need money for it
schools and colleges only suck ur blood and money
what u need i sincome generation source and not fake artificial decoram degrees and decoram false image certificates of false societies
and certifications of exploitation systems

One succesful illiterate businessman against millions of illiterate failures.
One successful illiterate against millions of successful people who can read and write.
There will always be an oddball. Don't base your life on what he does.
And no education is wasted.
