It wasn't his mothers gun, she had been coerced into looking after it by her boyfriend (a fact accepted by the prosecution, police and judge). The boyfriend could have got the gun any number of ways, with the Eastern Bloc (Yugoslavian civil war) now entering into Europe and with untold weaponry escaping the conflicts in both Afghanistan and Iraq. It is a sad fact of life that no matter how far away the conflict, it always effects us in the end.

No, unlike the US we in England aren't keen on people running around with guns all over the place.
Unfortunately, like all other places in the world some people think laws don't apply to them and with enough money you can buy what you want, legal or not, including drugs and guns.
I just think of the double standards of the mother of these two youngsters. She ignored the law that says she shouldn't have a gun, then expected her son to repsect her instructions not to touch the gun she foolishly told him about. Her daughter paid with her life for this gross foolishness, and both mother and son have been sentenced to a measly five years' imprisonment between them for it.
And I thought life was cheap in other countries...

Didn't that happen a few weeks ago. If it's the same case the mother buried the gun in the garden and told the son where to find it. Don't know where she got the gun from.

Mother was looking after the gun for some low-life.
She got 3 years.
Stupid son started playing with it and accidentally shot sister dead.
He got 2 years.
Both of them have to live with their stupidity.

Guns in the UK are available if you really wanted to buy one. I would suggest though that it is far easier to get hold of a firearm in the USA.
The lad in question got 2 years.

it's not exactly difficult to buy guns...it's like drugs; if you know who to go to, it's easy, even if they are illegal.
They're not going to go away, so surely we should be focusing on the reasons that kids are killing each other, and killing your own sister....that's a bit extreme, i mean, what would drive someone to that? i know society over here's in rather a mess, but still....
