I'm not the lazy one....my hubby leaves for work with his cereal bowl in various locations, the counter dirty, his pajammas on the floor, and other things..EVERY DAY, but at the same time says he NEVER expects anything out of me.

Not if you intend to go back within a reasonable time to clean it up. For example, if you make a mess cooking you should clean it up shortly after you are done eating. If you leave a mess and don't expect someone else to clean it up, but you don't clean it up yourself, you are expecting someone else to live in your mess which I think is worse.

He might not see it that way because he might find it acceptable to live with things in disarray as you've described. Obviously, you don't. It sounds like it's time for you and your husband to communicate and make an agreement about what kind of housekeeping you want to have as a family.

When my husband did this, I came to him and said, "One of two things is true about you. Either you like living in a nasty house, or you expect me to clean up after you like you are a little kid. Which is it?"
So my answer is, no, it could be that the person likes living in filth. But confront them with these two options and they will change their behavior.

No it isn't.

It's either not seeing the mess, or not caring about it. It isn't the same as expecting someone else to deal with it at all.
