My two year old cat eyes are red around the lids and they've been runny and she keeps blinking repeatedly. I recently got a new kitten, they play alot and the older cat cleans her. Could it be anything to do with the kitten? Any advice would be great.

My cat had the same thing recently, the vet said it was an upper respiratory infection and gave him an antibiotic and also a tube of antibiotic cream to put in his eyes. It cleared it up quickly. He did say that it is very contagious among cats, so be prepared for your other kitten to have it, too, unless the kitten is the carrier and gave it to the other cat. Either way, it's best to call the vet.

first;where did you get the kitten from-has it been to the vet for a health check up?-your adult cat has an eye infection or conjunctivitis.the vet can tell you.usually this can be treated easily with an eyecreme.but take the kitten with you as well to make sure your older cat did not get it from the kitten.i have 14 persian cats and keep the eyecreme in the house, since a slight infection can happen easy just from dust -and early treated -sometimes in just 2 days -its gone.

Sounds alot like cat flu.
Your kitten may have no symptons but can be a carrier. I just got 2 kittens, one who had cat flu when i gave it home. It's over it now but will be a carrier.
Take it to the vets. i was given eye cream and antibiotics for mine. I really don't mean to worry you but do it ASAP if it is cat flu it can cause cysts in the eyes which can cause alot of problems. it can also lead to pneumonia
Hope your cats ok

Hi....Please take your cat to the vet. It sounds like an upper respiratory infection that can be easily treated with antibiotics. Also, ask your vet about feline herpes virus. This is a virus that affects many cats but is fortunately kept to a minimum by daily l-lysine. The l-lysine is just a vitamin that you can get either from your vet or in the vitamin section of your local store. Ask your vet for dosing.

Agreeing with other answers but I would take both of them to the vets - if it is cat flu or suchlike it's best to get the kitten checked too as it may just not be showing the signs yet.

It's probably an upper respiratory infection. Put simply, a cold. When you get a new animal, it is advisable to keep it quarantined in a room of its own for 10 days to make sure any medical issues remain isolated to the new pet and don't spread to the rest of the pet population.
A vet can examine your cats and treat the cold with antibiotics.

Sounds like she might have picked up some conjunctivitis from the kitten (even though you might not be seeing in the kitten's eyes).
Best to get some ointment from the vet for her.

Kitten may have brought in an infection perhaps conjunctivitis. Suggest you go to vet who will give you antibiotics. Have fun giving them to the cat!

You should really consult a vet about this. It might be a touch of conjunctivitis, or it could be something more serious like cat flu which can kill. Get professional help
