He's allpowerful, allmighty all-perfect all -knowing this and that, but just can't seem to handle his finances... How much money that religion takes in goes to charity? Religion takes in Billions of dollars every year and there's no tax. Does this go to your priest's pockets?

It is not that God needs money. Let us look at what God commands. God commands us to bring our tithes (10%) to the preists. We must look at the Old Testament to find out why. The levites had no share of land when the Israelites came into the promise land. God commanded the Israelites to give a tithe of all of there First fruits. This way the preists in the various synagoges and the Temple would not starve to death. As believers we are to still bring the tithe and offerings into the storehouse (your home church). We need to understand that pastors have families so they need to be paid a salary. The church also has expenses such as rent or mortgage, electricity, phone, etc.... It also takes money in order to go throughout the world and preach the Gospel to all creatures as Jesus commanded us to.

Now there are some ministries out there where they are just looking to line their pockets. If there is a church that you are certain that that is what they are doing then stay away from it.

Also a question to ask yourself is "Who do I serve?" You cannot serve 2 gods as Jesus so plainly put it. you will love one and hate the other. Do you serve God or do you serve money?

Another hint also about giving can be found in Malachi 3:8 - 12.

God bless you and may he give you wisdom in you search for the truth.

I'm pretty sure your making a statement, rather than asking a question you already know the answer to. But if it will make you feel better to hear other people's comments, I will indulge you as well - Yes, of course the money mostly goes to paying for the priest's/elder's/reverand's livelihood. Although they preach that the funds that they receive is for God's work, they full well know that "God" will not pay them for the effort they make to give certain people hope to their existence as humans on this earth. Nor will He pay for these holy men's bills, rent, mortgage or maintenance for their shiny new cars. These priests are still HUMAN men, living in a world governed by a mix of more powerful human men (politicians, dictators, etc) who either believe in God as well or don't.

I don't know about now, but before.. back in history, when religion was the most powerful thing in the world, the church was SELLING FORGIVING's . It worked this way : One wakes up in the morning, makes a sin during the day, and in the evening goes to the church, gives them some cash and man, you're forgiven by God !

Now you go to sleep, wake up in the morning, and you may repeat the same procedure, as long as you have the money to buy your fogivings, or then you will be sinned for the rest of your life and will enter the eternal torture place - the HOT HELL.... until you give them some cash again... Laughable !!!

The money goes to the poor, homeless, needy. It goes to pay the electric bills in the churches, pay the office workers, pay the priests, buy supplies, help with tuitions, help parishioners with needs that may come up, etc. and so on.

For instance, Catholic Charities is the largest contributor to the needy and poor in America. Additionally, much money goes to helping third world countries build, educate, farm etc.

Ecclesiastes 5:1
"Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools; for they consider not that they do evil"

The Lord does not need money, churches have been built under false pretenses to get rich off of poor saps. Catholics did this to amass huge amounts of land wealth. Evangelists do it in the name of the Lord. Do you know what money is? Money is anything generally acceptable in payment of goods and services and for paying debts. I don't think the Lord falls under any of those categories.

Here we go again, I answered this one the other day for someone else, but until you find Jesus Christ, I will answer,
The churches have to pay rent and utilities to tell people of God, and God wants us to help people not ourselves, we need to have the compassion in our hearts to help those less fortunate than we are, God is free from sin, and the only way we can be not seperated from God is through Jesus, and we need to spread that news to people that are in countries that don't have an abundance, we need to follow God and be as Jesus with our hearts, God don't need money, no, but Gods people do, and God wants us to learn to love each other, and this is how we learn, by doing acts of kindness.
Did that help? I pray so, God loves us, thats all, and wants the best for us.

The money does not go to God but for God's works. We have to pay rent or mortgage on our building, we have to pay for our hymnals and prayer books, we have to pay the utilities and the minister. Plus we help support the diocese and the seminary and support soup kitchens and other programs for the poor besides supporting missionaries.

Its not god the money goes to. Its the priests who are in charge if the church. They are using their power to get people's money saying it is for god. Although, there are some good churches who do give the money to charity and bless those churches. We need more of them.
