Major airline pilots fly hub to spoke to hub domestically. International take a leg overseas.

They work about 10-18 days a month depending on what airplane they fly. The work load depends on the hours credit you get for a month.

When you are on a trip it is a good chance to get out and see new things depending on the time you have in that city.

About an hour before the flight the crew arrives to review the route of flight, weather at the origin, destination, and enroute. They check the status of the airplane to make certain there are no mechanical issues that may have been improperly logged. They check the items that may have been fixed just prior to them getting that partucular airplane to make certain that system works. While the captain usually loads the flight computer, the first officer does an outside inspection of the airplane for obvious defects that may have been overlooked. Finally, both pilots meet up again in the cockpit, verify the paperwork, fuel load, and verify the takeoff and landing weights are within limits for the flight. About that time the gate agent comes to the cockpit to advise the captain that everyone is onboard and waits for permission to close the door.

When the door is shut, the lead flight attendant reports everyone is seated and closes the flight deck door. The first officer calls ramp control for push clearance. After the push, you start the engines. When they're ready to go, you set takeoff flaps, and ask ground for taxi clearance and away you go!

Basically the job is divided between the captain and the co-pilot and each of them has its own duties..
Most of the inspection or preflight of the aircraft is done by the co-pilot who basically check for the status of the aircraft and looks for anything abnormal on the aircraft like clogged static ports or obstructions on the engines or even flat tires. The captain may do the paperwork which is basically decide the amount of fuel on the aircraft, check the forecast weather for the flight route, look at the amount of passengers on the aircraft and do the briefing for the whole crew about the flight about to be done.
Basically after all these stuff is done the passengers are allowed to enter the aircraft and the pilots should have the whole route ready on the airplane so that it can fly with the autopilot to the destination airport.
When taking off and landing the aircraft is basically in control of the pilots but the rest of the work is done by the autopilot, otherwise, the pilots should take care of communications and progress of the flight.
