There is something which has been frightening you, and you are dreaming up ways to cope. The mad killer might represent the problem itself or the person who has created the problem. You killed him with little struggle because you know, subconsciously, that you are strong enough to confront that which you fear.
I had a similar dream many long years ago when I was in a mental hospital after a bad acid trip. It marked the beginning of my returning control over myself and confidence in myself. I had had a visitor that day who was a graduate student in philosophy, and he talked to me in such a rational way that I think he was really able to penetrate my paranoia. When I described the dream to my doctor, he agreed that my visitor was owed a large debt of gratitude for his help.
And in a way, I did repay him, in that I went to college and chose philosophy as a major. He was very proud of the influence he had in that decision.
