Why is it called a Hamburger when it consists of beef and not ham?

Because it originates, from Hamburg Germany it was named after that.

This is one of the deep mysteries of the universe. I've also pondered wether or not ground beef, and a cow with no legs are different things. Also, i've alwalys wondered if a hamberger patty and a cow patty is the same thing.
