..hmm, well, how do i begin without sounding crazy, f*ck it, i've already gone insane anyways.... about 10 years ago, my mother, a devout christian, fasted for over 40 days, no foods, just liquids. after the fast, she was now able to ask god yes and no questions with an answer by the shaking or nodding of her head.. she says its Him who's moving her head... unfortunately for me, when i wanted to go out and chill with some friends, she would have to ask god's permission first!.. and of course, i was always up to no good, so the answer was 'no', 70% of the time, thats when i planned on smoking drugs, stealing, drinking, she had no clue about these things until 5 yrs later... but whats strange, i asked her if i could go out to see a movie(nothing illegal), she said 'no', than i demanded she 'ask god', she did, he said 'yes', so now she had to let me out...is that weird or what? my mom is not the brightest bulb in the box, so i find it impossible for her to trick me with anything...

I recomment researching Matthew 4 (40 days in the wilderness) and then research Spiritual Discernment. Below is just a brief overview.....

Spiritual discernment: calling on the Holy Spirit to lead or give direction on a matter. It is how the Spirit shows the church or its people what God wants them to do and be.

There is discernment of : gifts, spirits, actions, intents, the spirit of the times we live in.

Discernment is more than just a skill. Discernment is a gift from God before it is anything else. Yet there are clearly skills you put to use in using your gift, and you can become better at it through training and experience.

Discernment is more than just a process. Even for the most 'material' or 'nitty-gritty' matters, there is a Spirit at work nudging us, leading us, even pulling us by the nose ring. Even for the most 'spiritual' matters, there are disciplines, methods, processes, means, and tools which the Spirit can work through to help us discern rightly. Discernment isn't usually a sudden zap from beyond, but something which emerges from hard work.

I pray this helps.

I believe fasting does indeed get God's attention. But according to the Bible, no one should know when you are fasting and it is to be just between you and God. I always get a kick out of "christians" who talk about their fasting, because if they were doing it the biblical way they wouldn't be talking about it. The same principal is applied to giving to charity. No one is suppose to know about it but you. So, again, I always laugh when christians talk about themselves being charitable.

The only way to know for sure whether or not your mother was being led by God as a result of fasting is to try it yourself. People will tell you all sorts of things, so you need to have a first hand experience to get to the truth of the matter. That's why, instead of believing what ghost hunters were saying about ghosts, I became a ghost hunter myself. I have concluded that there are no haunted places...just haunted people.

I have to say I've never heard of that sort of thing before. I do think a good mother could give those same answers though. Hard to say how one could do that after fasting for 40 days however.

God would not require us to starve ourselves for 40 days. He knows our bodies can not handle it.

That's a little far-fetched.......

God does not speak to us in that way. He speaks to us through His word & His Holy Spirit

that is the craziest thing I heard. I am surprise that her preacher did not tell her it was from Satan and not God.
