I found out about the electricity consumption after I bought mine ... just like you. However, my bill hasn't gone up as much as I thought it might. I have switched a lot of my lights over to the compact fluorescent type and maybe that has offset it.

I had a 27 inch CRT Tv that consumed 90 watts and bought a 42 inch plasma that consumes 380 watts. Just so you know, big screen LCD units also consume more electricity, just not as much as plasmas do.

A 37" plasma television draws around 250 watts of electricity.

A 32" CRT (tube) television draws around 400 watts of electricity.

The power supply unit (PSU) in the average home computer draws 350 watts of electricity.

A kettle draws around 3,000 watts of electricity.

A power shower draws around 9,000 watts of electricity.

Your plasma TV uses roughly the same as four household light-bulbs - that's hardly an 'extreme amount' of electricity, is it???

They use less than the old CRT screens. Maybe it's just the amount of time you spend using it?
