Because every time someone would tell a good joke he's crack up

There is no reason to assume he was an egg. All we know is that he fell off the wall, which may have been low or, and that certain persons and horses were unable to put him back together again. He could have been a piece of pottery, for example.

Because that's what the pictures show.

None of the nursery rhymes were really about happy animals and children and eggs. They were political propaganda and metaphors.

what other (child appropriate) story character could fall off a wall and break himself to the extent which all the kings horses and all the kings men could not put said character back togeather... again
