In order to make real money from a technology it needs to be well hyped. A company needs to build anticipation and demand for its product by hyping it up. Like the iPhone, people were interested, because everyone was debating on how great it was going to be, rather than how good, regardless of the actual quality.

It means it's the currency. Hype is what keeps the technology business going, just as money makes the world go round.
