ok so heres the situation, I'm still a minor but i'm enrolled in a great program called Young Marines (boy scouts on steroids we like to say) an my friend who recruited me and i are going to school tomorrow in our cammy. I'm PFC he's First Sergeant so he is a NCO. So i plan to be real official and do everything by the book just to annoy him. he has PE first period so he's won't be in uniform but i will. So my question is, do i still salute a NCO if they are out of uniform? Can I just act like I don't know he's nothing at all because he isn't showing I.D that proves he's my superior. (by the way i go to a private school so i won't be getting into any trouble at all, unless my teachers have something to say)

AS all the well-versed MARINE NCO's here point out, you don't salute an NCO (unless he's holding a positional authority billet such as Command of the Guard), and certainly NOT when he/she is not in uniform.

Now I'm a old SQUID... so my point is... Marines will salute ANYTHING, or paint it.

Don't smoke and joke in uniform. You're looking for ways to horse around when, though i'm sure you don't realize it, and it's verging on disrespecting the uniform. Be appropriate.

First, the military doesn't salute an NCO. SOME branches call them Sir though that will depend on location and who's in charge at the time. You never salute someone who isn't in uniform, though you render them ALL appropriate customs and courtesies if/when you recognize them.

Next, appropriate rank. You're a cadet-PFC, not active duty, guard, or reserve. He's a cadet NCO. Be precise and pay attention to detail.

Behave yourself with the proper decorum of a military member and you should be fine.

No. By the book:
E.O. 5-11-A
1) Approach the senior Young Marine
2) Address the more senior Young Marine by rank or rank and last name then state your business
3) When the conversation has ended, say thank you and go about your business

Reserve your salute for the adult leaders.

Only salute officers when outside or colors. NEVER salute and enlisted marine. He will kill you. As for ROTC who knows.

When out of uniform they do not get saluted even if you are. Even if he did show you his ID you still do not salute.
