Wednesday nights at my church is the night we usually teach religion, but since this Wednesday was actually Halloween, we actually decided to have a Halloween party. and we called it just that. We didn't make a big deal of it. We called it treats in the alley. Cause we don't have an actual parking lot, and we have an alley in between our church buildings were everyone parks. And we blocked it off. and all the families came in with their lawn chairs. and all the little kiddies came in their costumes and they played games. we had a cake walk, and a costume contest, and a fishing booth. we had hot dogs and popcorn. and then all the kiddies lined up and went from family to family. we had 85 families show up, so all the kids made out like bandits with the candy. and it was a lot safer than going door to door. you didn't have to worry about cars, or inspecting the candy ....
our church wasn't trying to one up Halloween.... we live in a very rural and poor community and we were trying to do something that would be a benefit to our community. and i think it was a big success.

I think some of the churches are a little touchy about how they ought to look at Halloween; it's a night for ghosts and goblins and demons after all.
The Catholic grade school my kids attended had an interesting approach to the problem... No demons or ghosts or devil costumes were allowed and costumes of biblical characters were encouraged, (though nobody had guts enough to send their kid to school dress as Jesus H. on a stick.... Not even me. LOL.)
Talk about having irrational fear and insecurity, huh ? That particular church, headed by a very dogmatic and manipulative old priest, was at the zenith of them all.... I'm tellin' ya.

The Purpose of Halloween, besides fun, is to sell a lot of stuff... candy, costumes, decorations.... so what's the problem with churches using Halloween to sell religion too?

Luke 10:18
And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven."
There are two ways of looking at Halloween. Sure, from a Christian
perspective it's not especially great to have the kidlets dressing up as
the devil and whatnot. On the other hand, look at it from the devil's
perspective. You revolted against God and fell from heaven in this
primordial struggle against God Almighty Himself. In your titanic pride you
had high hopes of establishing yourself supreme in the universe. You
committed your greatest act of terrorism against God when you convinced His
own precious Adam and Eve to revolt against Him. You brought death
into the human race and you thought you had it made when God, as it
appeared to you, insanely chose to become human. On Good Friday you finally
had Him in your hand and you killed Him with all the savagery your
fallen angelic mind could invent. And now, for two thousand years, you've
been watching your revolt crumble as the Risen One turned all your
schemes into life for your victims and mockery for you. Now, so far from
ruling the universe, your face is on some stupid mask worn by a
6-year-old and the creatures you hoped to destroy are writing meditations
like this one to pull your pointy nose and remind you that the Christ you
killed has defeated you utterly.
Memo to Satan: Happy Halloween, loser!

i think they do bc they are scared that children will go somewhere bad instead of going to church but a greater question is that if they think halloween is so bad, then why even recognize it exists even only with a simple festival?

It is all Hallows eve the night before the feast of All Souls Day, it is actually a religious holiday not a pagan holiday as the pagans would have you believe.
