I just bought a 2nd house in FL and this is now my main residency and where I will file taxes. My other house is in Minnesota. My question is that I have two cars both with MN license plates. I will be keeping one of my cars full time in FL (and I will get FL plates for it) and the other will never leave the state of MN. Since my MN car is not leaving the state do I have to get a FL license plate for it or can I leave it as is?

If you want to keep the MN car registered in MN, you need a MN auto policy. Not a problem, you can have everything mailed to your house there.

Then you can have the FL auto policy mailed to the house THERE.

The PROBLEM is, finding an insurance company that will write you a MN policy, with a FL driver's license. You'll have to convince them of the summer home/winter home issue. There are some out there that do it, don't get me wrong. It's just that most won't.

I believe you can keep Florida plates & insurance on both cars as long as Florida is your primary residence, or you live there over 6 mos a year. I have no idea about MN laws. Bob H.
