Take some olive oil or almond oil or not then whichever oil is available with u just take some apply generously on the base of ur head and start of ur neck...start to gently massage the neck area moving uptowards ur head and do this in round manner or like a fountian shape.don't exert too much pressure just adequate amount and try to be gentle as much as u can do this for some 20 mins or maybe more it'll definately relax u. Eat a banana or some Milk with good amount of sugar in it this will divert the blood flow going to ur head and neck to ur stomach. Heavy stuff like milk protein, fat and sugar needs time to get digested so ur the blood has to divert it's attention to where it's much needed.

I've massaged the base of my head whenever I've had headaches with almond oil and it's the best ever remedy. The massage with almond oil relieves stress and provides nourishment also induces good sleep. Thus i get great sleep and a relaxed stress free and pain free head. Also since it's migraine ur talking about do not keep ur stomach empty eat something and take a pill on migrane Migranil or something whichever is available.

Like Rick said, heat and ice (20 min heat, 20 min ice, 20 min off - NEVER follow heat directly after ice b/c of burn risk). What also helps me is to do gentle neck stretches to the side, front, and lower side (like you were checking to make sure your deodorant is working). Gently pull with the opposite hand for 20 sec each stretch.

Self massage actually works pretty well if there are no other options. Otherwise find a chiropractor who has special training in upper cervical work. They should not recommend more than 8 to 12 treatments max.
