I'm trying to learn more about this 'lost tribe'. I'm hoping to find non-biased information concerning the lost tribe of dan, its roots and its influence in modern freemasonry.

Lucid . . .
While hopeful, I never expect to find an answer on the board, although there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there. However, I often find, particularly when it is an unfamiliar subject, that an answer may provide a clue where I can go research it myself.

I believe it is. I'm still trying to figure it out myself. My understanding is that Hirams were allegorical figures. Is this true?

BigM5... thanks, yes I understand a little about freemasonry. I'm not sure what cateogry this should fall under but I do have experience with zeroing in on a more accurate answer when I post questions where there are strong opposing sides, such as those in religious debate forums.

Seth's link is well written but unfortunately not even close to entirely correct. There is a lot of information contained within that site that can lead one to further study, but beware the misinformation.

Eric's link is also very informative. I think I'll be studying this one myself!

Here is one more link, which is not entirely on the subject of Dan and Freemasonry, but does contain some info linking the two... http://watch.pair.com/dan.html

Good Luck!

There are "Hirams" in connection with the Temple of Solomon. Example: The widow's son, from the tribe of Naphtali, or from the tribe of Dan, in the bible. Is this what you're referring to?

I do know that in freemasonry they use the Hiram Abiff myth in their ceremonies. I am not certain that it is an actual person but I would research the legend.

The tribe of Dan figures in the Royal Arch degree of the york rite. You can find some explaination of that Here: http://www.grandchapter-bc-yukon.ca/leadership/royalarchbanners.pdf

I don't know anything about masonry. I do know that Dan is omitted from the tribes in Revelation 7, in which the other tribes are mentioned. Dan is the tribe of Sampson.

And you're hoping to find the answer to this question in the R&S board?

No offense... but have you tried ANY of the other boards across Yahoo Answers? You might find a more sensible (even if slightly less on-topic) board than this where people might be able to answer your question sensibly.
