To some extent I find myself agreeing with you, however you need to remember that mythology and folklore don't really ever address FAITH or Spirituality as concepts that's where Theology comes into play. I lean toward your view as disrespecting faith and spirituality which are two things even a good atheist could have/posses. PEACE!
