A couple of days ago i realized my yorkie had some black spots by her behind, but it was like crusty stuff not fleas. so i didnt think anything of it till today i called my sister and asked what they look like...she told me so i started digging and sure enough i found them. I have picked 3 off of her, but my male has them too, they dont seem to bother my male every now and then he will scratch, but my female is digging all the time. I dont know what is better frontline of the K-9 advantage. I also want to know how fast they will work. My sister said that if i dont see them anywhere in the house it probably hasnt spread that far yet, i dont see them on any of my socks or sheets or anything, so will treating my dogs and yard be enough, i have two small children so i dont want to use harsh cemicals around the house. HELP please, i have never seen them before today!

Fleas are in the environment, and they are attracted to the body heat, breath and movement of an animal - your dog doesn't even have to go outside or meet other animals to get them, they will come in your house to get him.

It's likely your dog has had fleas long enough for the fleas to have laid eggs around the house. Get some Frontline or Advantage/Advantix from your vet, or Revolution. All these treatments are good - Frontline Plus is probably slightly the best because it also kills fleas eggs, which the others don't do

Go in to your vets to get one of these treatments, which is up to you because they're all good. Frontline is usually the cheapest. Just make sure it gets on the skin (not the fur), and all fleas on your dog will be dead within 24 hours and then he'll be protected against fleas for at least a month.

If you still see fleas 24 hours after application, you know they've set up home in your house! In which case you'll need to get a spray from your vet. You may have to spray your house twice, 10 days apart, to get any newly hatched eggs

Fleas live in carpet, furniture, grass, etc. They can be very hard to see unless its badly infested. Even if the dogs don't go outside much, you can bring fleas into your home if they jump onto your clothes, purse, or other things.

In some areas, fleas have built up immunity to Frontline, or to Advantage. You can try one and if it doesn't seem to be doing the job, you can switch.

Some dogs are allergic to fleas, which is why your female may be scratching like crazy and the male isn't.

You can buy something to treat the house and yard at a store like Lowes or Home Depot. Feed or tack and supply stores may also have products to use that are safe around animals and children.

I just had this problem recently....my damn dog was infested with those damn things. We tried shampoos at first and they don't work. We ordered Frontline off the internet for $40 and got like a 3 month supply. We also went and bought a flea comb and combed her for about an hour every other day outside. When the flea supply was gone...so were her fleas. We washed the bed spreads and the couches but that was about it. The fleas just kinda left on their own i guess. I feel bad for you...it sucks. Good Luck!!!

Advantage works well, so does Advantix, Revolution is the best. The fleas will be dead within hours and it continues to work for up to 4 weeks. With heavy infestations make sure you repeat in 3 to 4 weeks. Vacuum everything lots, was all sheets, bedding, throw rugs etc. Depending on where you live fleas can actually live in the dirt. In warmer climes like B.C. or Florida or California they live in the soil and you need constant protection. In colder climes they of course are killed off in winter, however a flea can live in your carpet for 6 months so don't stop using the topical preparation any time soon.

Pets can get fleas when they go outside, we can bring in fleas on our shoes and bottom of our pant legs. Frontline is not as effective as it once was. Advantage has a proven record for treatment of fleas. Revolution is also a very good product. Whichever one you choose, you need to treat for two months. The first month will kill the live fleas, adn the second month will get anything which has hatched. Both of these products are safe to use around children.

Frontline is garbage. Use Advantage.
