Every day, we read here, "Jesus doesn't like gays", or "Jesus would have smoked weed".

I've yet to read anyone make a comment like, "Jesus didn't like gays, but I have no problem with them". I've always found it interesting that both God and Jesus have the exact same political viewpoints as those Christians who are expressing their opinion about their own political viewpoints.

Everyone that believes in Jesus, believes that he thinks exactly like they do, and hates all of the same people.

Yes I see that trend.

If you want to look at Jesus as a possible historical figure he would be considered political. He challenged the authorities and brought a new way of thinking.

I'm not Christian or particulary attached to any political party but I would think Jesus would be a liberal if he were around today.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I try to line up with what God said in the Bible.

God is not agreeing with ME, rather, I'm trying to agree with HIM (not always successfuly, but at least I make the attempt).

Jesus told the woman caught in the very act of adultery, "I do not condemn you. Now go your way and quit sinning (go and sin no more).

This is the attitude I take towards weed smokers, gays, adulterers, et cetera.

Basically, Jesus said "Whoever is without sin may cast the first stone", and - hey - sorry, but He delivered me out of a whole pile of sin, so I ain't the one to cast any stones, lest any of them bounce back and hit me on the top of my head!

But, before you judge another person's religious or political point of view (ie before you go casting any stones), first find out exactly what Jesus DID say about these things, both directly (as found in the gospels, such as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), and indirectly (as found in the letters to the church, such Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, et cetera).

Why not find out what Jesus really taught, then show them "Christians" (the judgemental ones) what a REAL Christian is like by following the teachings of Jesus? That'll sure put them in their place, eh? I say GO FOR IT :-)

As a christian, I couldn't agree more. It is also a stumbling block in ministering to new Christians.
However, we are just folks, no more able to be perfect than anyone else.
Be that as it may, lol, u hit the nail on the head.
I also read once, that Jesus would never condone civil disobedience.
In my opinion, Jesus embodied civil disobedience. He broke no laws of Rome, He broke no laws of Judaism (ones passed from God to Moses to the Jewish population), but He destroyed many "civil" laws of man.

Congrats on a great question promoting great discussion. Other than Kjelstad, every answer above this is of logical discussion rather than emotional namecalling, (until I called his, lol)

Jesus was a man, flesh and blood just like you and me.

Jesus faced every single temptation we face as humans.

He was tempted with drugs and immorality just like we are.

He never gave in to those temptations.

I don't know if the bilbe ever tought about what Jesus' political views were.

Gay rights are not a political issue. My opinion (opinion the key word), is that gay rights are more about a gay person believing I should accept their lifestyle as OK instead of about their right to live as they choose.

God hates sexual immorallity. He hates the immoral acts gays do as much as he hates the hetrosexual immoral acts I have engaged in.

He loves us all. That's why he sent us his son. It's a great message if you really understand it all.

I have yet to read the opinions on a christian biblical scholar who has not researched, found jesus to be exactly what he was looking for, then written a book about it.

It irks me when people use Jesus to support their personal political beliefs. Jesus had no political beliefs. His only concern was with the welfare of mankind.

Well here's the important question - does the Bible say that Jesus didn't like gays?

No.

It is very interesting.

I don't agree that murdering an entire race of people because of the actions of one woman is just punishment, but in Numbers 31 God shows that He believes it is.
