Combine ingredients. Drop by teaspoonfuls on top of boiling stew.
Cover tightly and steam for 12 minutes.

I have lots of dumpling recipes and they generally have two different ways to cook them. One is to cook them the whole time covered and the second one (which I like better) is the following:

PARSLEY DUMPLINGS FROM SCRATCH (this makes 5 dumplings)

1 c flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 c chopped parsley
1 T chives
1/8 c butter
1/2 c milk

Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add the parsley and chives and stir. Cut in the butter until it looks like coarse cornmeal. Mix in the milk with a fork to make a soft dough - stir as little as possible. Drop by spoonfuls onto chicken pieces. Make sure your liquid is simmering and not boiling wildly at this point. Simmer 10 minutes uncovered. Cover and simmer 10 minutes more. Serve at once.

This is a very good recipe - nice, light, and tender. I cut the original down from serving a crowd to just serving 2. So, if you need more than 4-5 dumplings, double the recipe. It will work the same. If you follow it by the recipe, you won't have whatever happened to you before - happen ever again.

Enjoy!

I've never made dumplings (except Hungarian dumplings) from scratch, but I've used Bisquick mix to make the dumplings on the package, and they've been great! If you don't mind not having a fully from scratch recipe, I'd give those a try. They come out big & fluffy & delicious! Just be sure to follow the directions and they never fail.

No you don't need any egg to hold the dough together but it should be a very firm dough to start with. Here's a good one I always use;
250g flour
2 ts baking powder,
30g butter,
100ml milk,
100ml water.
Mix together, make dumplings and voila.

Enjoy.

For my dumplings I use refrigerator biscuits torn up into 4 pieces each. My kids like them better than the homemade kind. Cover the pan so they puff up and cook. Try them you'll be surprised.

Use the recipe on the Bisquick box. They're great dumplings & they're super easy to make.
