I've been seriously considering a Para-Ord Warthog PXT 45acp. I'm only interested in this pistol, i don't care how much you like your Glock or your XD, if I want to know about other pistols I'll ask about them. This question is about the Warthog. Owners of this gun, or those of you who have shot them, how do you like the short sight radius, are they accurate? Do you trust them? Is it reliable, what problems if any have you had.
My intention was not to offend anyone, but rather to weed out the answers that contain reference to anything other than the warthog.

Thanks to both of you Kfcozz and Boker for the answers! I was curious about the weight, i would be carrying it ****** and locked, withh 11 cartridges of 230gr jhp's in it. Thats a lot of weight right there alone!

Kcofz I was going to email you with a question but I can't, can you email me please? Or boker too, I would like to know about the trigger weight, and if any 1911 trigger job parts can be used on the Warthog.

I own the para ord "nite hawg" ( wart hawg with nite sites).
I've used it as my primary ccw for about a year and half now. I am a .45 fanatic, primarily a 1911 style pistol, which I carried both on and off duty for years. But I really like the nite hawg. I don't endorse a weapon unless I am really sure of it. I find it to be VERY accurate, never had a misfeed or failure to fire so far, with at least 2500 rounds thru it. I also like the "power extractor" with it's much larger gripping surface. Not one failure to extract to date. At the time I bought mine, it was ( and may still be) the smallest .45 pistol with a double stack mag on the market. Even with my big hands, I find it a decent fit. It comes with two mags, one fits flush with the bottom of the grip and one has a finger extension on it that extends the mag more. With the extension mag, it fits my hand great. With the flush fitting mag, it is a little on the small side, but is so small that I can wear a dark colored tshirt, tuck the pistol into an IWB holster and no one can see it. With the extended mag, it does show a little bit of a bulge. So I carry the extended mag as a reload. I qualify myself on the pistol every three months. I shoot from 7 yards out to 27 yards to qualify. I have fired several perfect scores with the nite hawg. I have even fired it at 50 yards into a standard police torso target, and had very good results. Equal to any of my previous duty pistols. my only complaint would be that the finish is not quite as durable as I'd like. Mine shows a lot of holster wear. But, the good news is that Para Ord will re finish the pistol anytime I want, for $149.00 plus shipping one way. Not bad at all. They also have a great service department and customer service is very good as well.
In short, I do endorse the para ord pistol. If you have any more questions about it, email me.

Personally, I like my para for a couple reasons...

The high capacity in a 1911 style .45 is great... 10rds +1 is really hard to beat. Reliability is pretty good so far; I've got close to 300 rds through mine without a single failure to feed. I like the weight; it's a little beefier and that seems to help absorb a little of the recoil.

At first blush, accuracy isn't too bad for the ammount of time I've had it--- there are probably a couple tweaks I need to make to get it dead-on.

Some people complain about the recoil, they think it bucks a little too much. I actually like a slightly strong recoil; for whatever reason I find it reassuring.

The trigger pull is as smooth as glass, and it breaks just as crisply. No problems there.

A couple things I don't particularly care for: in a short-action .45 the springs on the slide are *stiff*. This is the first gun I've owned where the tension actually took me by surprise. This makes breakdown and reassembly a little more work compared to other 1911's.

The beavertail grip safety has a tendancy to bite into my abdomen when I'm sitting for a long period of time. A little uncomfortable.

Some people have said it's a little too thick to conceal easily on them, but I'm fairly skinny and this gun dissappears under an untucked t-shirt or a sweatshirt. I wouldn't recommend it for pocket carry though, unless you have one of the "concealment jackets" with the large pockets you pull the velcro flap open to get to.

All in all, after a little more practice and a couple more tests, I'm sure I'll use this as my primary carry piece- winter, spring, summer, and fall.

I don't own one (yet) but i have fired a few on my range. I really like the feel of them in the hand, i have large hands so a small frame pistol has never worked well for me, the Warthog is anything but a small frame, yet it's compact enough to conceal easily. I love the 3" barrel and 10 rounds, plus the features of any 1911. The sight radius is short obviously, and the rear high ramp sight takes some getting used to. For 7 yards it cuts one ragged hole in the target, shooting out to 25 yards it loses its consistancy, but still all 10 shots inside of 8 inches aint bad for a 3" barrel. It's HEAVY, that's the only drawback i have with it, if this is to be a carry gun, it will weigh a ton by the end of the day.

I have a Para-Ops about the same size but single stack. I have put 100 flawless rounds through it so far. The gun is more acurate than I am. Trigger is great, finish is good but I want to fill in the white dots on the sights with orange paint. They are countersunk and fill up with dirt/ lint making them harder to see. Otherwise I love it. Recoil is not bad for such a short pistol.

I will just agree with the other guys here, I own the Hawg9(12+1) and it is sweet and very accurate. Recoil wise, I had mine ported and its perfect! Conceals well, and feeds just about any ammo without any hiccups.
