rice hands down it's a naturally occurring food item. all natural foods are always healthier than man made food items. 100 grams of cooked whole grain rice would provide less calories than the same amount of pasta.

The danger inherent in both is overestimating portion size. If you compared a serving of rice compared to what you receive at a typical Chinese food take out place, you'd be unpleasantly surprised. Likewise, compare an actual serving of pasta to what you receive at almost any sit down restaurant. It's not so bad in European countries, but in America the portion sizes are ludicrous. I would guess that spaghetti is the worse of the two based solely on the bleached flour that makes white bread worse for you.

Whole wheat pastas and brown rice, as has been said, are the way to go.

I think they are about the same. There is nothing wrong with either, but if you don't work out the carbs turns into fat. But if i wanted to eat rice or spag, i would get the brown rice, or whole wheat pasta. those are excellent alternatives. Also good carbs are like whole wheat bread, fruits, and sweet potatoe.

Is it better to cut off your leg or your arm? Counting carbs and calories will make you fat and depressed. Both rice and pasta are NOT whole grains. Both are very fattening and will clog your colon and make you fat and sick, sick, sick.

Eat HOLY whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat pasta, brown rice pasta, buckwheat pasta or pasta made of spelt or kamut. You get these at the health food store instead of the fat and sick food store.

Don't be stupid. How can spaghetti have more carbs than rice if the spaghetti is made of rice. You can buy spaghetti made of only brown rice with no wheat in it at the healthy health food store.

For cooked 100g portions of each:

100g of long grain white rice -> 130 cal, 28g carbs, 0g fiber, 3g protein
100g of medium grain white rice -> 130 cal, 29g carbs, 0g fiber, 2g protein
100g of long grain brown rice -> 111 cal, 23g carbs, 2g fiber, 3g protein
100g of medium grain brown rice -> 112 cal, 24g carbs, 2g fiber, 2g protein

100g of regular spaghetti -> 158 cal, 31g carbs, 2g fiber, 6g protein
100g of whole-wheat spaghetti -> 124 cal, 27g carbs, 5g fiber, 5g protein

According to this, brown rice has the lowest amount of carbs - but I would actually go with the whole-wheat spaghetti because it trumps the brown rice in fiber and protein.

I suppose spghetti has slightly more but for practical purposes you should eat neither! Both are highly starchy and are forbidden if you plan to lose weight on a low-carb regime. Your main foods should be green salads and meat.

One grain you can have is flax which is low carb and can be made into a hot breakfast cereal in the form of flax seed meal.
