Duh, as far as temperaments, sex doesn't determine that so much. Males will tend to be more dominate and active and females will be more submissive and affectionate. But thats not always true.

The difference between them is the same as the difference between male and female dogs of any species: Very little, once they're neutered. Of course you will be neutering them, since they are not purebred (though their parents may be).
The male tends to be more protective of territory; the female, more protective of family. The males also tend to be a bit more social. That works out to the same thing, in effect; and any problems that come from such protectiveness can be solved through training. They are equally intelligent, though males have a greater tendency to want to be "alpha" and so will need more reminders of your own leadership status during training than females will; so training a male is somewhat harder. Still, it's not a great deal harder--especially if the dog is trained from puppyhood and neutered at the first opportunity.
Price-wise, you will pay more to spay a female than to neuter a male; but a male tends to have more urinary tract problems. Spaying/neutering will prevent many health problems in the dogs--especially in the male.
Male and female dogs are essentially the same. The differences from dog to dog are greater than the difference between genders.

A male mutt, which is what a maltipoo is, no matter what you call it, has a penis. A female mutt has a vagina. A penis sticks out from the dog, the vagina doesn't.
