Hello,
--There is a basic book entitled "MY BOOK OF BIBLE STORIES"--that is basic for young people in that it presents the actual happenings from Genesis to Revelation in story form but it also has Scriptures listed so people can look up the accounts for themselves and for their children if they are old enough to understand!
--It also comes in cassette form and possibly CD!
--It can be obtained at no cost from Jehovah's witnesses locally and if you wish to make a small contribution to our world wide work, you may do so!
--I AM including the introduction to the book which also tries to follow events in their chronology:
*** my My Book of Bible Stories ***
--THIS is a book of true stories. They are taken from the world’s greatest book, the Bible. The stories give you a history of the world from when God began to create until right up to our present day. They even tell about what God promises to do in the future.
--This book gives you an idea of what the Bible is all about. It tells about people of the Bible and the things they did. It also shows the grand hope of everlasting life in a paradise earth that God has given to people.
--There are 116 stories in the book. These are grouped in eight parts. A page at the beginning of each part tells briefly what is found in that part. The stories appear in the order that events occurred in history. This helps you to learn when, in relation to other events, things happened in history.
--The stories are told in simple language. Many of you young children will be able to read them for yourselves. You parents will discover that your smaller children will delight to have these stories read to them over and over again. You will find that this book contains much of interest for young and old alike.
--Bible citations are given at the end of each story. You are encouraged to read these portions of the Bible on which the stories are based."

There is a really good book that's been out for decades, called "The Golden Children's Bible". It's a really big book, but it has a reading level that adults and teens can enjoy. It's got lots of pictures, too. It costs about $20 and you can get it at any Barnes & Noble or other big bookstore. It contains all the bible stories of the OT and the NT, in an easy-to-read format. I just bought one for my daughter, and I finished reading it in 4 days.

My suggestion would to buy a children's Bible and read it front to back.
The vocabulary may be beneath you but that will help you understand the stories of the Bible.
Better yet, go to a Christian bookstore and ask a sales associate of a book they'd like to recommend.
In the meantime, here are other stories of the Bible:
*Story of Creation
*Mass exodus of Egypt by Moses
*The story of Joseph and his colored coat
*Shadrach, Meshach, and Abenedgo and how they escaped a huge furnace full of fire
*Etc.

Dozens of sites offer dozens of ways to learn the basic and more in-depth Bible knowledge.
www.blueletterbible.org is a good one.
type in a phrase or scripture reference, then click on "L" for commentaries.
Look for J. Vernon McGee's audio series as he teaches through the Bible.
His presentations are easy to follow and simply presented.
