It probably will work just fine!
All modern digital cameras are "USB Mass Storage" devices, which means they pretend to be a hard disk drive. Both Mac OS X and Linux include drivers for USB mass storage devices as standard. You plug the camera in and the operating system sees an extra drive.
Some older digital cameras used an RS232 connection and a proprietary driver which was Windows-only; but you could still get at the files on the memory card with a slot reader (which *are* mass-storage devices).
Microsoft pay bribes to hardware manufacturers not to state that their products are compatible with Macs or Linux, so as to make it look as though only Windows is widely supported.

Likely the camera will connect to Mac but the software the camera vendor supplies won't. The Mac OS should be able to access the pictures off the camera as though it were a mass storage device. You just won't be able to use the software that came with the camera as the vendor probably only wrote it for MS Win32 platforms.

If it's a new camera you should be OK, just plug the camera into the computer. if this fails, use the CD that comes with the camera.
If this doesn't work, go to the camera makers website and check out their support page, you should be able to download drivers there.
It will work on the mac.
The software included may not.

Go to the web site.
Most products include the Window's OS drivers needed to run the installed programs, but the majority of these companies will also include a Mac download available at their site.

Most cameras these days work by saving the pictures to the SD (or other memory card) in JPEG form. If you don't mind going without the software that came from your camera and just want to see the pictures it should be fine. There are plenty of photo editing software packages for macs also if you're worried about that.

Contact the manufacturer and see if they have a Mac driver for the camera. Also, there is emulation mode for Windows on Macs. That may allow you to use it.

The software that comes with it won't work with a mac. You might find by just pluggining it into the mac will allow you to upload photos to the mac.
Try going to the camera manufacturers website to download mac compatible software. Most manufacturers will do it.
