i like my music loud, there is no dobt about it, but i am amazed at what i here people puting in thier car (3, 4 , even 5 k watts) , is this just for competitions or what? Honestly i think 1000Watts RMS is more than anyone would ever need for loud authoritive tunes, and even at that you could make yourself deaf. i mean why do people put 2 15" L7's in a car? i can understand spending several thousand on a stereo if it brings more quality, but to spend the money on HO alternators, caps, power cells, and such just to gain a few db...a few db past the human threshold of ear pain.... why? is there a good reason? (besides competition) i know some will mention the bragging rights, but why brag about volume and not quality?

Its human nature to what to be the biggest loudest coolest guy on the block. Why have a car that goes 155 mph? or 52" TV?
Now I run 2200rms and I would much rather hear "wow that sounds good" then that's loud, and most of the time I do hear that it sounds good till I turn it up some more and they poop them self's but it still sounds good.

Yeah sparky's got it dead on!!! Penis envy! Honestly people these days love to brag about what they have and how much the spent. To me you should be able to build just as loud of a system for less money by doing things right or properly! Many people seem to think the more rms the louder...although completely wrong sometimes it does mean this but the sad part is that many people build spl systems from say 1000-1500 watts of rms power. It makes no sense other than saying I spent more money on mine...to me that is stupid and I'd rather crap someone's pants by having a set of pyle or crappy subs and saying beat that with your couple thousand dollar sound system...I just did that with 40 dollar subs! People's false perception of bigger is better come's into play big time! I've worked at a few different places and noticed people will come in want a computer and say I want to buy the most expensive computer you guys have just to say "my computer has a 500gb hard drive a blu-ray dvd burner and a dual core processor" when they think its cool to spend more money on it....when the truth is they'll never use up more than 20gb worth of memory, burn hd dvds and will never use any other program outside of internet explorer or mozilla firefox!!! I love making fun of these type of people!

Hey Rick you should go check out the site I'll past in teh source area if you haven't already...pretty sure Mr. Meade put a few thousand like 20000watts in his tahoe....check out youtube and all of his videos I'll post a couple of ones that are pretty funny if you've never seen them...

i totally agree with you Rick. i run 900 watts, and hit 137.6 db. its loud enough to rattle your nostrals, and its pretty rare that i have it up that loud.

imo anyone can have a loud system. just like you said. all you need is money. but to have a system that both sounds good and gets pretty loud, thats impressive. it takes a lot more thought then lets just buy a bunch of woofers throw them in a bunch of boxes, and power then with 10,000 watts. but thats not to take anything away from serious compition guys. a ton of math goes into those cars.

i guess i cant really answer your question, cause we think too much a like. its like i've always said, any woofer can be loud, but not every woofer can sound good.

Maybe it's because their hearing is so damaged that they can't tell quality any more. The only thing they can hear is louder. And that won't be for much longer, I bet.

If you know you're doing damage to your hearing, why do you keep doing it?

Excellent point. I thinks it's the "I've got a bigger penis than you" syndrome.
