I work for a non-profit org and live in a maze of cubicles...the people here are really strange, and I do not have any work to do. If I did, I'd be doing it! This is the most boring place I have ever been paid to sit at! I would rather be busy and make half of what they are paying me...

Try and make your job more interesting. Most employers will fire you if they know you are goofing off at work and playing online. You didn't say what you did for a living so it's hard to answer your question. If you want to add some details, then you might get a better answer.
Thank you for the additional details. Although i don't really recommend doing anything that will bring a lot of attention to yourself, you could maybe read a good book or magazine. Maybe try a little scrapbooking. Maybe start writing a journal. I usually will read the newspaper and magazines and go through the slew of catalogues that i get in the mail when i have "down time" at work. If i could get away with bringing in a laptop to do other things, I would. good luck with your quest for a cure to boredom (but be grateful that you actually have a job, many people don't).Also, i do crossword puzzles. my brain needs a challenge once in a while.

Pick up a good book or two. I have a boring job too... and I read The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Great series.
I don't know how your employer would feel about you watching movies but there is a website where you can watch movies online for free, plus they have many movies that are out in theaters... www.watch-movies.net

Take a on-line education course. You can earn a degree on-line and look busy all while doing it. If your bored you obviously don't have enough work to do or maybe your not getting work because the company doesn't trust you with it and they feel that you are incompetent in completing any assignments properly. All in all you will EARN while you LEARN - - this could either benefit you at your current job or in your next position...

I use to sneak in a portable gaming device and go to the restroom often for some gaming pleasure. If you get a PSP, you can even watch movies and surf the web. Just make sure you have your headphones plugged in all the way :-)
You can also try creative writing. That can kill lots of hours.
Finally, you can do your job.

Uh well first of all don't complain you have a job and they are paying you so be happy about that. I am going through the same thing and I had to realize it pays the bills til something better comes along. I bet if you had a job where you were busy all the time you'd complain about that also.

There's this really great site, you might have heard of it - Yahoo Answers! lol
You could maybe listen to your favourite music, watch DVD's, the email equivalent of pen pals.
What about hobbies, jewelery making, card designing, knitting, or other things that? It would keep you amused and they could earn you a bit of extra cash!
I hope this helps!

What is it that you do?
I'm a computer operator, and I have stretches of down time. I kill time by coming to Y!A, but with the wealth of stuff on the Internet, you should be able to keep yourself entertained on the web. I know I do.

Start taking some college classes. Then you can use that extra downtime at work to study. You could have a doctorate in no time. ;0)

A lot of my coworkers knit or crochet during down time at work. I do sudoku online. Reading a good book helps the time pass more pleasantly. Scrapbooking?
