Our oldest five range from 22 to 31...but then there is our youngest son, age 9. We're both aged 50. He was planned, our retirement project...my golden child.

I am just like you only my kids are older now. My husband and I have been married for 30 years. We have 4 kids, ages 28, 26, almost 23, and 10. Our older 3 were 18, 15, and 12 when our little surprise joined our family. I know exactly how you feel. I still often feel as though I don't have a "peer group". All my friends from when my older kids were young have gotten most of their kids through college, are now facing empty nests and loving it. Not only do I still have a 10 year old at home, but my 26 year old has returned to the nest, and due to various problems, my almost 23 year old hasn't even left yet! They are good for some built-in "baby sister" watching though. When our youngest was a baby, the group of people I normally hung out with loved the baby, but really weren't into discussing things like diaper rash, latching on issues, and which stroller was best. We could still talk about sleep-less nights since we all had kids learning to drive, starting to date, and heading off to college. It's just that when I stayed up waiting for teens to make curfew I was usually nursing a baby at the same time! Play grounds, play-groups, story time at the library, and preschool put me in touch with moms with kids my daughter's age, but while they bemoaned potty training, I knew everyone of those kids would be potty trained before they started Kindergarten and there were bigger issues to worry about coming up. I think I scared some of my potential friends away with horror stories of "if you think this is bad, just wait". I had to mellow a bit and remember how it felt long ago to go through each stage of my children's lives totally caught up in the issues at hand and realize that these moms had to go through that, too. Now, my youngest has teachers the same age as my older kids and that can be a real downer. I managed to come across a few families in our small community who had wide age ranges in their kids and it's nice to know there are others facing the same issues. So, yes, there are a few of us out here in the same situation as you.

Hi. I turn 51 this year. My children are 29, 27 and 2 & 1/2 !! What a ball! Yes it is harder to keep up with a 2 year old at my age, but he is so much fun. Finally I can be WITH my child as he grows up. Day-care raised my first 2 kids. I think it is a blessing to be financially stable enough to be able to stay home with him full-time. Too bad more parents can't be older when they start having kids. Too many people have kids before they are ready; financially or emotionally.

My mom had 4 kids when she was in her twenties, she had me when she was 37, and she had my little sister when she was 42. She said that by the time my little sister was born it was like starting all over again because all of my older siblings were adults and she still had 2 little kids in the house :)
