Sometimes I wonder why parents choose these 11 letter names that noone can pronounce. And these kids will have to go thru life spelling and pronouncing their name to everyone. Do parents consider these things when giving their child a name? There are getting to be too many weird names out there if you ask me. (My real name isnt Dianna but a variation of my real name which I do not care for)

I have heard of some darn stupid names. One girl, a single mom who dropped out of school, named her baby girl "anesthesia" because when she saw the word in the hospital she thought it sounded pretty.
I had to talk another girl out of naming her child "alexia" because, even though it sounds like a name, it is actually a medical term meaning brain damaged to the point of being unable to read.
There was the Greek business man who named his son Anopheles - which is the name for the mosquito that carries disease, A farmer whose name was Harry Balls, A man who ran a lake resort whose name was Sandy Shores, and the number of doctors whose name is Doctor is just disgusting.

I know what you mean. I have a name that is only 3 letters long but only 2 of my teachers could pronounce it right. Sometimes I just let it go cause it's so tiring correcting my teachers how to pronounce my name.

Parents may be too excited to think about a reasonable name for their child. The media also encourages them to be as original as they can be, so they choose odd names.

Well I don't like my name, my mother doesn't like her name, and my grandmother who is 93 doesn't like her name........my mother likes my name, my grandmother likes my mothers name, and I am sure my great grandparents liked my gram's name.

I don't think parents try to name their kids bad name I think that it's just the "grass is always greener" mentality -- we always thinks someone else got the better of the deal than we did.

Then again I have seen some kids names that I think the parents should be slapped for! I have seen kids named Rebel and Vagina (no I am not joking)..................now that is just mean.

My name is a combination of theirs Carl and Eileen=Carleen. I didnt care for it as a child but when I got older I grew to love it. I was born at home and delivered by my Dad so they named me after themselves.

I'm sure they didn't mean to cause you dismay. I named my daughter after a Barry Manilo song back in the 80's...yah, I did. When people find out her name, half of em break out in song! If I'd have only known then.......

I once read a book about a little boy that was severely abused by his mother. She called him, "It."
That's a type of a name that I have a problem with.

It's normal for one to not be particularly fond of their name.
If you feel that strongly, once you're of legal age, you may consider the idea of changing it to one, more of your liking.
