Lol Ben, it's Mormons(like Free Will said). They're a non-traditional branch of Christianity. Some people like Edge disagree with them, without even knowing what they truly believe.

The hate you heard, or saw, was probably born out of ignorance.

mormons are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- or LDS---basically i don't think most people "hate" us- their are plenty that are ignorant about the people or religion or just hateful person in general that might feel this way, but i don't think this is majority feeling. I think a lot of people are misinformed a lot of the time, and people are fearful or dislike what they can't understand, or that might be considered different. I think that's where a lot of the animosity comes from- there are notable diffrences in doctrine from other christian denominations, but i think a lot of the information out there is either inaccurate half truths, or lies- and some are just honest misinderstandings. But you can decide for yourself. - check out mormon.org to learn what we believe- there is no commitment in looking at a website:)

It's Mormons, and we actually prefer to be called LDS or Latter Day Saints, because the real name of our church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mormon is a nickname, because in addition to the King James version of the Holy Bible we also believe in the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, when he came to ancient America, to visit the "Other Sheep".

We are a Christian church. There are a lot of false rumors about our church, that contributes to why people hate us so much. People will believe anything you tell them, even if it isn't true. People think we are a cult, but we aren't. People think we worship Satan, but that couldn't be further from the truth. We worship God. There are so many more rumors, so if you hear any, don't believe them. Ask a person who is actually LDS if you want to find out the truth.

The main reason people hate us is because we are different. Just like the protestants were persecuted when they seperated from the Catholic church, so are we persecuted because we don't believe the same things as others.

P.S. if you hear any rumors about polygamy (Plural marriages) don't believe them. It is true that our church used to practice it, but it has since been outlawed. If you are polygamous, you will be excommunicated from our church. Period. (I don't see why people freaked out about it anyways. They practice it in other countries!)

For more information go to lds.org

P.P.S. Free will, you said: "Most Mormons are also referred to as LDS, for their affiliation with the LDS Church " Well actually, we ARE the LDS chruch. And Just so you know, most of the things you put down are almost true, but contain lies. I've been in this church for 17 years and I've never heard of God having more than one wife... It's never even crossed my mind, because IT ISN'T TRUE! It's hard to know what to believe, so ask an LDS person who knows the doctrines, lol.

They're one of the groups that door knock.
They can't drink tea or coffee.

Christians like to say that Mormons are not True Christians™.

I guess people hate us or don't like us is because many have closed minds and are ignorant to what we believe.

MORMONS are a sect of Christianinty founded by jospeh smith. while there are things really "out there" IMO in their denomination -- only those that do not understand the lessons of Christ hate them or anyone.

"Mormons", Ben. "Mormons." Most Mormons are also referred to as LDS, for their affiliation with the LDS Church (see below).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormons

The above link will give you a general idea of who they are.

Not everybody hates them, but many people are critical of their religion. As a matter of fact, most people actually love the Mormons as a people. They are kind, generous, and friendly. They, on average, live their religion to a greater extent than members of other groups.

Their church, however, (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) teaches many doctrines that are considered "abominable" to the majority of Christian groups:

*God and Christ are separate beings, and are both married for eternity (possibly to more than one wife), which is what allowed them to inherit celestial glory and become gods in the first place

*Man also can become a god if he is married for eternity to one or more wife and lives a good Mormon life.

*There are three heavens

*Jesus, Lucifer, us, the angels, and the demons are all "spirit children" of God, making us all brothers and sisters with each other, and Lucifer a brother to us and Jesus.

*We are saved by grace "after all we can do", meaning that if we don't do all that we can, Christ's grace will not save us.

*The Book of Mormon is "the most correct book" in the world, even more than the Bible.

*Seerstones (and/or the Urim & Thummim) are physical objects that contain power to bring revelations from God.

That being said, there are others who challenge the Mormons for reasons completely unrelated to theological differences, but rather the untenability of their historical claims:

*Many of their "revelations" (D&C, BoM, PoGP) have been changed after supposedly having been declared "complete and correct" by God, to give the leaders more power.

*The Book of Mormon resembles the KJV Bible and other fictional and non-fictional works in story, plot, literary style, and background. In the KJV where there are clear translation errors, the Book of Mormon contains the same errors and wording.

*DNA evidence has shown absolutely no relation between the Native American (both North, Central, and South) populations and the Israelites, which shows strong opposition to Smith's and the Book of Mormon's claim that the Israelites are the "principal ancestors" of the Native Americans.

*Smith introduced new doctrine in his later life that allowed him greater power, including the right to marry additional wives. Smith himself had at least 33 polygamous wives, but kept them a secret from most people by virtue of an "endowment" offered in the Nauvoo Temple, which was nearly identical to masonic ceremonies of the day. Smith had been a Freemason for less than two months when he introduced the endowment.

I myself grew up Mormon and continue to attend the church, but have been open enough to recognize that the Church is not what it claims to be. Therefore, I don't believe in the Church, but since it teaches good things to my family and promotes togetherness, I continue to attend.

Some people may hate mormons. I do not hate them. However I do hate their religion. I believe it is a false Christianity that leads people to Hell.
