I know that running a business takes up all your time. At least that's what I've heard. Anyway, I want to start a daycare centre (first at home and then expand and get licence). I absolutely love kids and I love teaching them things and seeing them laugh. I know kids can be hard, trust me, I have my own! But I am looking into this opportunity because I feel like I can create a really super healthy and educational daycare centre. I know I can. I'm just worried that I won't have time for anything else.

What do you think?
Any tips you have for starting out would be really appreciated.
I'm gonna read all the response so please do respond! :)

I am most likely going to a community college to become an Early Childhood Educator. I will also complete my degree (in process) and become a preschool/junior teacher. I'm serious about this!

btw I have a lot of experience babysitting.

I have run and in home for three years. Yes, it is hard work but being with my children is wonderful. I ran two head start programs before I opened my own in home and it was awful because I didn't have the right to hire and fire. I would get to work at 6 and work until 6 or later because my staff didn't care. I have my Director Credential and a Bachelor Degree in Family Studies. In January when my youngest daughter gets to be 6 months old we are going to start looking for a building. Good Luck!!

Well, take it from someone who JUST opened a home based daycare center.... IT IS HARD! Yes, it does take up a lot of your time, but in the long run it's well worth it. I started working at a daycare a few years ago and discovered how much I love doing this. I decided 5 months ago that I would like to open my own. I looked up all of the licensing requirements for a home daycare and then began working on the loans and paperwork to get started. It's been a long hard road to get started but hopefully within the next 2 weeks my building will be ready to open and I will be able to have my house back! Good luck to you!

I have a home based day care with 3 kids. It takes a lot of hard work, but you're on the right track with your goals. In the beginning, like with any business you will not have a personal life!! But once things take off and you work out all the kinks you'll get your life back. You can do it! Good luck and God Bless!

i started with a registered home and then opened my own daycare. to get started, check with your local department of family and protective services office (DFPS). they can tell you what you will have to do to get on your way. it's lots of paperwork, but well worth it! yes, the hours are long. i get up at 6:00 a.m. i open at 7:30. i am the last to leave when we close at 6:00 p.m. and yes, i pretty much have no life. but i LOVE my job!!!!!! i get to play, and cut, and color, and laugh, and read, and play some more!!!!!!! my days are long. my stress is high. but i wouldn't change jobs for anything! my daughter (who is 20) is my assistant teacher. my son(who is 12) stays at the best daycare in town! lol. don't be discouraged by all of the red tape. it is sooooooooo worth it! kudos to you for wanting to care for other's children! :)

It all looked good on paper until the kid spouted off "My parents are paying you good money " I can do what ever I want. I answered no. that is not so. and I told my friends that night it just won't work out. Plus your son is repeating what you and your husband have to say so keep your good money.
