I can't believe people didn't mention Nitrates, the preservatives they use for ham and bacon. One of my health teachers told us that the anti-oxidants and vitamin C in orange juice will offset the nitrates in bacon, so if you eat bacon you should always drink your O.J.

Bacon and ham also contain high levels of nitrates, as does any smoked or preserved food. Nitrates are carcinogenic. Not to mention the high sodium level. Also as others have said, they are loaded with fat and cholesterol. Very bad for you. If you must eat meat, at least eat fresh meat. Preserved meat is the worst for your health.

Can't see any reason why it should be true. Bacons not great for you because of the additives (nitrates) but if you buy good quality bacon that should not be an issue.

Yes, unfortunately. Both contain high levels of sodium which are very bad for you heart. They also contain bad cholesterol. Diabetics (like me) are told to stay away from these foods as are people at risk for heart attacks and those who have high cholesterol or who have already had heart attacks. My entire family is now limited in how much of these foods they can have because of the risks associated with them. Sorry.
