ALL U.S.Marines are trained Riflemen regardless of their Job and Rank. All of em',every one from Private to Commandant of the Corps. You're Nephew better get his attitude in check and think his thoughts about the War quietly.
He could be pulled from the desk he is flying and handed a Rifle at a moments notice and he better start thinking and behaving like a United States Marine. If he joined to wear our Uniform and strut,he's got another think and a *** kicking coming to him!
I believe personally, the War in the sandpile is a lost cause and a mindless waste of our National resources and Manpower. That being said,I would never let my brother Marines down by letting my thoughts and actions degrade or lessen their Title of US Marine.
Good luck to you're nephew for thr remainder of his enlistment.

He signed up for the Marines, he should realize they get deployed. My husband has been home from Iraq just over a week now and he's already preparing to go back again in 5 or 6 months. It comes with the territory.

Sure be glad he's not somewhere where he'll get shot at.
And it's OK for him to be glad he's not being shot at.
However, that's where it ends. He's a Marine. If he gets ordered to go, then go he will. And when he goes he will be expected to kick butt just like every other Marine who has gone before him or who will go after him. That's what Marines do.

I don't think he gets it yet, but a lot of people are over there not there because they want to. They are there because they took an oath to obey the orders of the President and other elected officials. Most Marines over there are there for each other, to protect each other so they can come back home. Him being home is one less pair of eyes to cover some body elses son, daughter, father and so on to keep them from harm. I was over there twice I wish I could still be there but my injury from combat prevents me from staying in the Corps. I do not fully agree with the politics why we are there but I want to do my part to keep my fellow Marines and service members safe so they can come back home to their families.

Sounds like the Marines are really scraping the bottom of the barrel or they didn't train your nephew properly. Marines are notorious for their attitude about fighting and war, your nephew does not sound like a Marine He sounds like he has very little honor or moral fiber. SO not only should you be happy that he is not there...his fellow Marines are probably happy that he's not there.

You don't have a nephew in the Marines. You come up with this kind of thing on a regular basis. This is your childish way of trying to show military opposition to thr war.
Why don't you grow up?

well he got lucky that he got injured...but if he recovers and gets the order to deploy then he must deploy. no soldier, marine, airmen or sailor likes to be away from their homes and families.but when duty calls, you have to answer if you are in the armed forces if he's happy to stay then it's good enough for you to be happy cause he's doing something he likes

I am glad he isn't over there. With his attitude it would just degrade the morale of our good soldiers and Marines who understand it's not a pointless war. We don't need his type protecting anyone, much less a good warrior with noble intentions.

Well, for one thing, he won't be getting "hostile fire pay".
That's a bonus for actually being in a war zone.
