My stepfather and I had a pretty terrible relationship throughout my childhood; always fighting and yelling at each other. He and my mother divorced and we all went our separate ways. I am now a Christian and last year, I reconnected with my stepfather and we have a wonderful stepfather/stepdaughter relationship NOW. I'm getting married in 8 months and I want to share a dance with my stepfather but I can't find an appropriate song for us. All the father/daughter songs are about the past and how great it was - I need a song (it can be religious or not) that talks about a rough past or a reconciliation. It can be any genre, really. I'm 22 and my stepfather is 40 - we like all styles of music. Does anyone know of any songs that talk about an apology or forgiving the past?

Thanks for all the help so far guys.
I love that Brad Paisley song, but again, it doesn't apply AT ALL. When my mom and him got married, I locked myself in my room for hours, crying.
I should also mention that my biological father committed suicide almost 5 years ago, so any songs about death might not work here - my family might see it as me stepping on my real dad's toes. All the lyrics with lines like "wish I could have told you" would apply more to my real dad.

To answer the last answer I received: YES, I do want to bring up the past because we are very happy with our new relationship and feel proud that we overcame our differences. No one in my family knows we have reconciled and I'd love to find a song that sort of illustrates how our forgiveness occured.
