This person claims this puppy is pure bred. I do not think so. It looks like Rottweiler mixed with Pit Bull. Can someone else reconfirm this? She keeps telling me it is. How can I prove to her that it isn't?

this puppy is a mix. her legs are long and straight...much like a doberman.

pits have strong stocky legs, with larger chest muscles..it kinda makes them look round chested or bow legged in a way...like this puppy:

his jowls are also a bit shallow for a purebred, they usually hang a bit lower *see photo again*.
also his head doesn't look quiet as square as a pits should be.
but it really would come down to DNA testing hon. you can argue till you're blue in the face but i doubt this person will budge on their claim.

and really...does it matter? he's an adorable puppy no matter what he is!

What most people think of as "pit bulls" are frqquently mixes. There is the American Pit Bull Terrier, the Staffordshire Terrier, and the Bull Mastiff, all of which are purebreds, then there are mixes of these and other things which sometimes get called pit bulls.

As for the pup in the picture, it looks like it has some rottweiler or something else in there.

Here's a fun game for you:

Yes there is such a thing at a purebred breed called the American Pitbull Terrier (or American Staffordshire Terrier with the AKC). Pitbull is however often used as a generic term for any bull and terrier breed or anything that even slightly resembles an APBT or an AmStaf. The only way to know if the dog is purebred is to see registration of either the puppy or both parents with a reputable breed registery. Outside of that there is no way to know for sure either way.

There is such a thing as a pure bred pit- properly referred to as American Pit Bull Terrier. I agree, this puppy looks to have some rotti or dobie in the mix, but really, if its someone elses dog, why do you care? DNA testing can be done to confirm one way or the other, but to my mind the money would be much better spent paying for spay/neuter, or donated to animal rescue.

Ask to see the papers! If the puppy is pure bred then she must have the papers for the mother and the father making you able to get papers on the puppy. If she doesn't have these then the pup isn't pure bred! Sure is a gorgeous pit though! They do come in all colors! Looks like a pit to me!

It's hard to say they only way you would know is to see both the parents, and also if this dog is purebred, you should get papers with it. It doesnt matter whether it was bred by two pit bulls or not, if it's got no papers its not purebred.

My breeder explained that to me when I got my Shih Tzu. She said if someone sold you a puppy with no papers it wasnt a purebred. No papers NO purebred, EVEN IF BOTH PARENTS ARE PITBULL. It would only be fullbred. For a dog to be purebred it needs to be registered.

Looks more like a Pit/Rottie mix to me. Maybe a Boxer/Pit mix also. Definately not a PB Pit.

Are you saying it's mixed with rottie because of the color?, there ARE pure bred pits that are that color, it's not very common, but it is allowed in the breed standard. Other than that, i see no reason why she couldn't be pure pit.

American Pit Bull terriers are a real breed. But I can't tell if that puppy is or not. It is too young to tell.

I don't think that dog is full pit bull. It does look like it's mixed with rottie. But it's young....and they don't look full pit sometimes when they are young.
