Many sects consider good works necessary to Christian living (though not salvation). I don't think the Methodists promote this any more strongly than a whole pack of other sects (including the Roman Catholics, who don't push it any more than the Methodists).

I have seen Methodist get involved in a lot of good works.
When it comes to charity, I believe in helping people around me...locally, rather than finding some poor people in some far corner of the world.
Charity begins at home. You have to help your own family first....then your neighbors and your community...before taking on the world at large.
Too many church groups raise money for overseas charities. They need to focus on their own communities.

This is the problem with religion in general...Doing good works...It's nice that the various Christan denominations do "good works"; however, it's not nice that Christan denominations frequently demand a price for those works. It's called Evangelism/Proselytizing. In order for a person to get help when needed they often need to conform/convert to the belief system that's trying to help them. This form of "good works" is wrong as it has strings attached. PEACE!

The Orthodox Church believes very strongly in doing good works. I agree good works alone do not lead to salvation, but faith without works is a dead faith, you can't be a good Christian with a dead faith.
