I wish that it was a shocking thing, but it left me numb. I'm sick of being regarded as subhuman...

Not shocked. (It was 9 states). Though what I am shocked about is that KY isn't listed there. I could have sworn we had one similar to those. Maybe it's been taken care of already? *shrug*
As for these states, if they are contested against the Constitution, they wouldn't stand anyway. Unless the Supreme Court rules against the Constitution, which in this day and age really wouldn't surprise me either. But as they aren't in my state, I can't write to the offices of that state and really be heard. Heh, I'm not really heard in my own state, because our Gov. and Sen. are both Evangelicals and both have stated that they don't think Non-Christians are "True Citizens" - this after Bush's little speech on what he thought about Atheists and other non-religious people. Ah, but election time is coming around =) The only other thing I would know to do is to write Congress and point out that those particular laws are Unconstitutional. Maybe post it to the Constitutionalist website (a relatively new political party). We could start a whole campaign protesting it.

I feel there should be no judgment whatsoever regarding any PERSONS religion or non-religion, OR atheism. BUT as I was reading the sites you sent, one thing did come to mind regarding Courts etc. I am not saying I agree with what iT said, but as I was reading, this question did come to mind.
If you have to swear on the bible (or maybe in the future IF they change to everybody's religious books) and you are an Atheist, what would an Atheist swear on, regarding telling the truth. Now don't get me wrong, I personally believe that many, many of those that DO swear on the bible, lie anyway, but I wondered, for SOME who voted on this, whether this particular point was why they voted that way.
I would be interested to hear the answers to this question. I am not an atheist, but do not judge them because they have the right to think whatever way they want. I also do not belong to a particular religion.

I agree that it's shocking and sickening. One of the disadvantages of having states that can write their own laws is that there are bizarre ones on the books. None of those states is my home state, although Massachusetts is close. I would think that anything to do with the basic rights of a citizen should have nothing to do with religion, and if religion is to be kept out of the government, why are the non-religious being punished?

Yes, it is hard to believe. I have done something about it. I've written 5 books depicting atheistic heroes that are superior to the world's theistic heroes. I even created an atheistic Jesus who was better and wiser than our Jesus. Unlike Dawkins, I do not treat believers intolerantly for their intolerance. I show them tolerance. "Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do." Now, if only they were read. If only they were understood, etc., etc.

Most Europeans would be stunned to know this.
It is against basic human rights and in Europe would be a criminal offence.
It is as bad as anything done in the name of communism or fascism - if not worse.
My respect for America has just taken a dive.

I'd be willing to do something about it. Unfortunately, I don't live in any of those states so writing letters won't really help.

I live in one of those states, and if I'm ever disqualified for anything just because I'm an atheist you can believe it will make national headlines.
