Cats can die from having dog flea medicine put on them. Especially doses made for much larger dogs.

Make sure you read the package from now on.

Hopefully the cat will survive.

Please ring your vet to ask these questions, because we can't answer them! Treatment protocols vary depending on what the damage is, and prices certainly vary a lot. It won't be an operation though, it will be medical treatment.

Almost certainly your cat will be getting a form of muscle relaxant, like diazepam, to control seizures. She could also be on a drip. Your vet really should have given you an idea of cost - didn't you ask though? The last cat I saw treated for Bob Martin toxicity ran up a bill of £140 - that won't necessarily be a guide for your bill though.

Sorry this happened. I've seen too many animals poisoned by Bob Martin - some, it was even the correct product applied! I have written to Bob Martin, but of course they would never even admit a scrap of liability. Please try to spread the word about this product, and pet store flea treatments in general - they are so often dangerous. They contain organophosphates, which are cheap pesticides that have been around for decades. They're more commonly used for crop spraying - not really appropriate for application to animals! Sorry you had to learn the hard way, I really hope your cat will be OK. She's at the best place, so chances are she will be - Bob Martin poisoning is so common, vets are well practiced in dealing with it!

after working at a vet clinic, we say numerous cats come in to the office in shock from having the cheap flea meds put on them. I would spend the extra money and buy the flea meds from the vet from now on.
