I want to get her haircut, but she has to have a rabies shot first...so can I get the rabies shot without getting the rest of her puppy shots first or do I have to do the series of shots first before the rabies shot?

how old is your puppy? Most vets say 6 months, but some foster people told me it wont hurt them if they get it sooner and that I should sooner because my pup was around alot of other dogs at parks.

my vet changed his mind (originally told me he'd rabies vaccinate at 6 months) for some reason he vaccinated her for rabies at 4 months, she's still due for a parvo vaccine.

She was very tired after all her shots though

Series of shots and then Rabies. Some vets will give Rabies with the last of the series and some won't. Definately finish the shots. How old is she?

You can absolutely only get her Rabies Vaccine without getting any of the other vaccines. Rabies is the only vaccine required by law, so technically, that is the only vaccine you are required to get. However, your pup MUST be old enough. I would wait until she is at least 12 weeks, preferably 16 weeks old for her first Rabies Vaccine.

A lot of people opt to not have all the vaccines done at once (like me!). It is a personal preference to spread out the vaccines by 3 weeks each in order to not give the immune system a blow all at once.

So, to answer your question, no you do not have to have your puppy UTD before getting the Rabies Vaccine.

The rabies shot is just one of the vaccines a puppy needs in the first few months of its life. It's a good idea to get them all in the timetable your veterinarian sets for you to avoid the puppy contracting a serious disease like parvovirus or distemper. It's a lot more likely your dog will be exposed to parvo or a preventable respiratory ailment at the grooming parlor than rabies - so get all the vaccines and ask your vet when is a good time to start making grooming appointments.

I used to think that you had to do the other shots first, but we had a problem with a neighbor and we had to get my dog her rabies shot before she was done with the other series. The vet said it didn't matter. They have nothing to do with each other.

The vet should have worked it so that you were getting your last shots with the rabies shot. Get the rabies shot if your pup is 16 weeks, and continue with shots until they are finished. You should be discussing this with your vet.

A puppy should get a series of shots starting at 6-7 weeks. They should get a distemper shot starting at the time and every thee weeks until aproximately 16 weeks. At 16 weeks the puppy would get its last distemper and a rabies vaccination.

The distemper vaccination is very important, don't skip it!

I've always tried to get the shots all done at once but a vet can tell you if order is important or if it's not
