My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year. It's always been hard for us to not be jealous. Neither of us can really be friends with a person of the opposite sex without the other one worrying, and it's terrible! Is there anything I can say to myself or him that will help us get over this and realize that we know we won't cheat on each other or hurt each other?

Learn to trust. No trust=jealousy.

If you're jealous, you don't trust each other. It's as simple as that. If you have a guy friend or he has a girl friend, invite that friend out for dinner; the other person will see that the friend poses no threat to your relationship. I think when you know the guy or girl that your partner is hanging out with, you learn that there is no threat and there's no reason to worry.

You should talk to each other about why you feel threatened or worried by a person of the opposite sex. Maybe it has something to do with a past relationship, or you think you're not good enough, or you think the other person is more attractive ... whatever the reason, you two can work it out together and the jealous feelings will start to fade.

sounds like you both dont trust each other and are insecure. Normallly this is an issue with young people or people with a very active "dating" past. You both just have to work on building the trust and trust comes with time and proving the other person that they can trust you back. The main thing is TIME, over a period of time you guys will have good trust in each other as long as no one messes up.

So sorry for the both of yous. It's now become part of the relationship. It's there to stay. When you finally brake up because of being jealous,it will be then that you will change. If somethings going to happen it's going to happen.Don't push someone away by thinking crazy jealous thoughts. The sad thing is both of yous are probably faithful. When you get older and in your next relationship forget the word jealous ever existed.Life is just to short.Don't waist time on assumptions.

you guys are probably young. when you are young sometimes it just is weird to see your guy or girl talking to someone else. if you know that you won't cheat on each other all you have to do is say f*** it! but apparently there is some thought that you would cheat on each other otherwise you wouldn't get jealous.

i was in a relationship like this. yeah it sucks big time. its definitely not easy to overcome jealousy and it will just lead to worse things down the road...like cheating. i suggest that you two seek couples therapy if you are that serious about staying together
