Trying to understand women better, and in particular, my girlfriend. It is pretty difficult to be on the receiving end of PMS especially when nothing has been said/done to provoke an angry or spiteful response. I would really appreciate mature responses from women that suffer from PMS. I want to be a more informed man so that I can respond to my GF appropriately. Thank you for your answers.

Yes, people can control themselves (expect perhaps in cases of mental illness). A moody PMSing woman might have trouble changing her foul mood, but if she makes an effort to be aware of her moods and realizes she's feeling blue or angry or whatever-the-case-is then she can definitely control how she chooses to act and react.

Moods are controlled by chemicals in our brain. We don't have much control over what gets dumped in our brain and when, but if we look at ourselves and think "I'm feelin pretty biotchy right now" then we can also stop ourselves from taking it out on others. Some people just choose to go with the flow, whatever the mood may be.

Every woman is different - some don't suffer from the emotional complications from PMS and others are almost completely different people if the PMS is severe.
I've heard of cases where doctors put the lady on meds just for the PMS because it's SO bad.
Having said that, there's really not much you can do about minimizing her moods and outbursts - primarily because you never know what's going to happen and when. I would just give her space and be gentle with her. If she picks a fight with you, don't add fuel to her fire by yelling back. If she demands something unreasonable, don't tell her that it's unreasonable. Wait until after the PMS is over and have a mature talk about the incident. If you are able to point things out to her in a non-confrontational type manner, it might help resolve some issues.
Best of luck to you!

I never realize that i am acting out in a negative way, i can lash out, be mean, and hateful and usually believe its someone else who caused me to be that way. I dont realize what ive done till a day or two later. So I don't really think it can be controlled at all. Unfortunately many a men have been in ur shoes and all wish for a cure. They haven't found one yet. best thing u can do is stay outta sight and dont say much either way until the pms blows over. You will get a lashing now and again, just dont take it personal, try to shrug it off and be glad its only a couple days outta each month.

Sometimes depression is a major symptom of PMS. Alot of times I would get short and upset with my boyfriend and super depressed and not know why until I realized it was about that time...

When I got on birth control, all my sypmtoms were minimal. The depression aspect improved ALOT. I suggest if its really impacting your relationship then have her get on BC (unless you are trying to have a child right now...)

uncontrollable, but they also use it as an excuse to abuse us 1 week out of 3.

just keep a lot of chocolate in your pocket and feed it to her when she attacks.
dont tell her how fat she is, you might never walk again.
