The Bible is the word of God. It was God breathed. He spoke to people like Paul, Peter, John, his disciples, and many more. He spoke through miracles, gave intuition, and spoke in many other ways. So in all actuality the Lord God wrote the Bible, but he allowed others to put his words on paper. This is the simplest and shortest explanation I can give you. If want a longer explanation I will try to help more. Email me at willingtohelp@yahoo.com.

A a Christians i can proudly say not God....He was the inspiration of the bible . He got Moses and the crew to write down His thoughts and events of there time to give us a glimpse of who HE is,what HE is and give the good news of Jesus the Christ ......Well I forgot he did do the ten commandments thing however, as time past God place it on other people hearts to keep his word alive and to rewrite it in other languages and dialects....From priest and monks and even Shakespeare has help to keep God's word sacred.....Now all you, and you know who you are, do not twist this and say now the Bible is a bunch of stories because that is not what I said. okay

A) The Old Testament books known as the Torah, the first five Books, were transmitted orally for who knows how long before anyone got around to learning how to write and writing them down.
B) The Psalms are mostly ascribed to David.
C) Proverbs and the Song of Solomon are ascribed to Solomon.
D) The various prophets probably didn't write their books, but they all had followers and it's a pretty safe bet that at least some of them were scribes and wrote down everything their boos said. Think BC Boswells to ealy Samuel Johnsons.
E) Most of the historical books were collated during the reign of Jehoiakim, but were probably extant for some time before that. Courts even back then were notorious for getting everything in writing.
F) The New Testament was certainly at least dictated to the followers of each of the four Evangelists (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). And Paul did most of his own writing. Peter, James and John probably worte or dictated their letters to scribes.
G) It's the Muslims who claim that Allah actually wrote their holy book and handed it to mohammed, all nice and neatly margined, typed and pages carefully numbered.
H) Christians, (those who actually know a little of what they're talking about, that is), do NOT claim God as the author in persona propria, but that He inspired the various writers to do their schtick and took what He got.
For instance, one night God decided that that was the perfect night for Paul to give mankind the definitive definition of love. So He conked Paul upside the head with the divine equivalent of a 2x4 and Paul grabbed the nearest quill and got crackin'. After greeting a bunch of friends and remembering himself to some people he thought he remembered baptizing, Paul got to work and produced one of the most lyrically beautiful passages about love in all of Scripture. Then he went on, doing some absolute waffling about church laws and how to behave yourself and finally, God, taking pity on generations of theologians and preachers, inspired Paul to shut up and go to bed. And that's how we got the Epistle to the Romans.
Hope this helped

Actually, God DID write it. When a CEO writes a memo or sends a letter to people in his capacity as chief executive officer, HE doesn't write a thing. His secretary does. The prophets who wrote Scripture down were acting as secretaries. their names are not important. Only the Author is.

Approximately 40 men, over 1600 years.
Some of their names are Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon, Daniel, Malachi, Matthew, Luc, Paul, Peter, James, John.
Although, they were writing what God wanted written .....so a case could be made that God wrote the Bible.
Its His thoughts in there.

Men, under the directions of God. Various men wrote the Bible (Moses, Paul, King Solomon, and several others), but God directed them. It is God's Words written by the hand of man.

2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Not ALL scripture is inspired, but much is.
We are warned of false scribes altering it in some places. For example, the phrase "the Lord" took the place of Yahweh in almost seven thousand places in TRANSLATIONS. Do you care? Does anyone else?
Jer 8:8 How do ye say, We [are] wise, and the law of [YAHWEH] [is] with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he [it]; the pen of the scribes [is] in vain.
WHY did they do this? To make people reject the message it teaches!
Jer 23:26 How long shall [this] be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, [they are] prophets of the deceit of their own heart;
Jer 23:27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
They want you to follow a false Baal. Look up baal in a dictionary "the lord". But do you care that they have acomplished their evil goal in this world? The 'bible' is not to be an idol, something worshipped. Nor does it have to be perfect to be useful. Abraham did not have a bible. Neither did Noah.
Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
The Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Yahweh, it will guide you, not some translation of scrolls. Never has been about the texts themselves. Though they can be a tool in assisting one to understanding.

In the bible it says that all men are liars, how do we know what we are reading is true when those men wrote it down. Aren't they liars?
Bob L: are you saying the deciples ghost wrote it for God?
