I'm a full time student, no job though, I'm looking for one. Theres a lot of things in my life right now going wrong and I find that keeping busy keeps my mind off of it and I don't get depressed. When I do get depressed, everything will get worse. School keeps me busy, work will (as soon as I get a job), any more suggestions? I want to be busy enough so that the only time I go home is to sleep.

Volunteering is a good option. But I find that having as many ways to drive depression off as possible is a good idea. That way when one stops working as well you have others to fall back on.

Examples: meditation, positive affirmations. Write a diary and put in it 5 things every day that you're grateful for, to keep your mind focussed on what went right.

Exercise, yoga or even martial arts to get the endorphines flowing.

Study subjects that take a lot of mental work, philosophy, religion, psychology are good ones.

Read self help books or get the audio books, and see what the different gurus agree on. Wayne Dyer is a good one to start with.

And there are about a 1000 others. so branch out, I say.

The thing about depression is, it eventually ends. Just hang in there. It can't rain forever.

After school work you could find a volunteer program perhaps at a local school or hospital, then there is exercise and cleaning. If I want to keep busy I clean. But I work full time at a hospital so when I have your problem I just sign up for extra hours my co- workers think I am a work alcoholic little do they know I use work to get my mind off other issues for a while. During slow time at work then I have time to think and not feel pressured it all ways seems to work out in a few weeks.

One thing you could do, and i always suggest it (because it works well for everyone) is an exercise program -- just getting out and walking for a while 4-5 times a week, gives excercise and a real good opportunity to clear your mind.... and it also gives a person a lift. I always look forward to it.

Try to accept the bumps you encounter in your road through life.. there are many things we simply can not change, and acceptance really does work... even if the problem is upsetting at first, realize you can do nothing. For other issues, take action to change.

take care of you.
