I am considering joining the national guard. I live in rochester ny. Does anyone know where the nearest place for basic training is located and during that 9 weeks, are people allowed to come visit me there? Also, I take online classes at my school and want to make sure there is internet available there to complete my homework when I have time. And lastly what happens as far as my pay during that training? How much do you get paid and do i recieve checks or get it direct deposited? Can I send some of it to my family if I need to? Thanks.

I realize it is total dedication, I just didn't know the details of it. Mainly I was concerned about being able to have money for my fiance to pay rent and stuff while I'm gone. A guy I worked with said the $20,000 bonus you get half first then half when your done, is that before and after BT or the entire amount of time I'm enlisted?

Basic training- You go where they send you, not where you want to go. The closest place to Rochester might be Ft Leonard Wood, Mo.
Vistors. Forget it.
Internet for courses. no internet, no time.
But since you're experience d with the internet, you can google military pay for yourself.

I'm not sure you understand. Basic training is a period of total committment. You will not have internet, TV, Radio, newspapers, or anything else. You will be training 12+ hours a day, everyday. You will not be doing homework and there will be no visitors till graduation.

That said, it's not really very hard & it isn't that much time out of your life. It'll be over before you know it & you can move on to AIT & free college tuition with a paycheck. The pay must be direct deposit. Your family can access that account from home if you've given them a card or something to do so with. And you'll get your full bonus up to $20,000 when you get back.

Click on my name over there & msg me. I'll hook you up with all the information you need.

It sounds to me like you need to get your priorities straight before thinking of joining.
1. Basic is where they send you if it is the Air National Guard you will go to San Antonio, TX with no visitors until graduation

2. You can forget about any classes until at least you are finished with basic and technical school

3. You will get your checks directly deposited into a bank of your choice. Pay will be active duty pay until you finish all your school. You can google military pay charts for figures

no internet connect in Basic. No visitors allowed in Basic. You will attend basic at the nearest Army Training location. Pay is DD only.

It can depend on your specialty. If its Infantry, it might be Ft Benning, GA, Engineers, Ft Lenard Wood, Mo, Signal, Ft Gordon, Ga-it all depends. I think you can have visitors but again it could depend on the training cycle. Right now for obvious reasons, its probably high. You do get paid there-you want to look up the pay schedule for your rank on Military.com. You can have an alotment sent over to your family.

Good Luck!!!
