The government is not forcing you to "trust in God" by saying in God we trust on the dollar. It is our history, and whether there really is a God or not, it is the belief our country was founded on. If I was in a country where it said "There is no god" on the currency, well... I would realize that I was born into an atheistic country and I can either choose to live with it or move out of the country. I would probably only move if I had to hide my beliefs though, unless I felt it necessary to stay there and secretly evangelize.

At least try to think of it like this; if there is no God and we keep that phrase on the dollar it makes no difference - it's just useless letters printed onto a peice of paper. I don't think anybody is going to reconsider their atheistic beliefs because of it. But if there is a God and we as a nation take it off of our currency, then we are insulting the most powerful being in existence.

I'd take my chances with leaving it on the money.

It would be a good thing.

I am a Follower of Christ, typically people consider that a christian, but whatever...

Anyway, there are far too many people who claim to be a Christian than those who actually follow Christ. They have taken the name of God in vain.
People who kick out others from church because of their sins.
When Yeshua came to save the sinners, not kick them out.
"Friend of Sinners"

Secondly it would benefit the followers of Yeshua simply because people from other countries wouldn't automatically think "America=Christian" anymore.
We won't get the heat for the child genocide going on today.

Frankly no country has the right to bear the name of God if they don't even lift a finger to do anything about it.

For example,
I am glad that people are taking out the 10 commandments from places.
If people want it there for the sake of just feeling good about it, they shouldn't have it at all.
Its like the hypocrites. They parade the law but they don't even obey it.. So why bother parading it, it only brings more judgment and condemnation on people who see it and have no way to repent.

Rather than making a piece of rock preach for you.. Let your lives preach the goodness of God.

It is no different than me demanding everyone to wear a shirt that says "JESUS IS LORD"
while more than half of them sin every 5 minutes.
I am masking the problem with external display rather than actually doing anything to fix the root of the problem.

God loves you, you should love everyone else.
God wants to forgive you, so you must forgive everyone else.
Treat others how you want to be treated, dont do things that you know they won't like, the same way you don't want them to do anything that they know you dislike.

rather than buying that new gadget, why not spend money trying to support people in need.
support organizations that educate people in other countries.
or building water pumps so they can grow their crops and feed themselves.
Do something with your life that will matter.

Thats really the tough part.
Arguing about who is right and wrong does nothing for the world, it only appeases your guilt over your own greed.

Start with 10% of your income and donate it to a charitable organization, or start your own. Then step up in giving and generousity as you get higher income.

Notice: I am not telling you to give it to a church or a preacher.

Now you have no excuse.
You may have said that you Don't need God to be a good person.
NOW IS THE TIME TO PROVE IT.

I'm an atheist or agnostic or at least non-JudeoChristian. I truly wish the radical elements in atheism/nonJudeoChristianity at any rate would do what many religious folks do (those that aren't fundies lol). Live and let live--I don't care what they put on money--I don't care if they give kids time in school for prayer/reflection. As long as the state or federal government does not demand I worship a Judeo Christian god-or whatever-I DONT CARE. Making a mountain out of a molehill. The fella who asked this question is sort of the atheist version of a christian fundie--sort of out there and a lunatic lol--I apologize for him

I would feel like I was the minority as opposed to the majority. Feeling like the minority is never an easy thing to deal with (I'm a soon to be single mother, and I couldn't feel any more like a minority right now). I have to say though that if I DID live in a world like this but I was still raised in the Christian faith, I would still believe. I'm sure I would doubt more but I would still believe none the less. I don't dislike atheists, I don't tell them they are bad people...my sense of Christianity brings me to be a better person than I believe I am without it. I do not place judgement on other people because it is certainly not my place to do so.

This country was founded because of religion.
In God We Trust is the whole reason this country is what it is today.
No, it's not a perfect country but why does a select few want so badly to change the beliefs of the entire country?
You choose to be atheist that's your decision.
Our forefathers chose to come here so that they could worship freely.
If you have a difference of opinion that's fine but that doesn't mean that you have to change the entire country to it.

but it is not. it is not an assault to have those words on anything. these are the things that over 90% of america wants. this is not a minority rights issue, it is a common sense issue. in no way are you harmed, predjudiced against or hated upon except when one parent in a school system takes away the rights of the rest of the school, just because their parents do not believe in GOD. no one forces anything on them. they are not forced to pray, say one nation under GOD or swear any allegiance to him. so what is your point?why should the majority accomadate a few haters? your point is pointless. the funny thing is that this is one of the few countries that has religious freedom and that is slowly being taken away by haters. i will pray for you.

Well - you know, it just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Although it's gotta be better than having "Allah" plastered all over I suppose.

I know, we should become so politically correct in order not to offend anyone that people won't even be allowed to:
>talk
>write
>wear what they want
>have flags
>have money
>worship
>watch television
>maybe even breathe

You know, like the Pink Floyd video..."Another Brick in the Wall"! Yeah, we can all look the same and wander with blank faces and not be able to think for ourselves nor express ourselves.

Wouldn't that place be AWESOME??!!!

Oh wait, I think Saudi Arabia and Iran are already like that- aren't they?

This is supposed to be a FREE country. The Atheiests don't like the Christians "pushing" their belief on them, so why should it be permissable for them to "push" their non-belief on the Christians? It would be wrong in so many ways. Our forefathers that founded this country must have thought it was important as an expanding country or they would have never put "in God we trust" on our currency.

An atheist, by definition, is a person without a god. So, how can an atheist be bothered by something they don't believe exists? That is nonsensical.
By contrast, a Christian is someone who believes that Christ saved him/her. So, to answer your question, the word "atheism" would bother a Christian b/c a Christian wants everyone to know Christ. : )
Maybe you should ask yourself why you are bothered by the idea of God if you don't believe in Him? Maybe you really do . . .
