I adore England, however, I am really wondering why there are windows only with single glazing, there must be freezing cold in ur houses in winter.

Because until quite recently there was no legal requirement for newly built houses to have double glazing so builders being builders shoved the cheapest option they could find in... which is single glazing.

Something I discovered several years ago that I still find amusing, was that in Scandanavia double glazing isn't considered insulating enough for houses.
So they use it for barns and stables.
Basically, the UK government thinks we only need insulation to the same degree as the Norwegians give to a cow.
Then, of course, there's the economic aspect. The less insulation you have, the more you need to heat the house in winter, which is going to hit you in the bank account every time.
Pay a little more for high quality insulation, pay less in the long term.
Simplicity itself.
