Ok here's my situation. My doctor put me on paxil-10mgs for depression. I soon noticed side effects so he switched me to lexapro-20mgs, which I felt was too strong so a week ago I dropped it to 10mgs. Now I decided to cut it down to 5mg a day for a week or so and quit altogether. I've been on meds only a total of 2 months. You think this is a good way to go. I know I'll have some withdrawals but hopefully nothing too bad. Also, while I was on anti-depressants I was going to the bar with my buddies on the weekends and drinking (I know you're not supposed to) I was getting really trashed really quick and having blackouts. I can usually handle my booze pretty well. Anybody had similar experiences. The lexapro also seemed to make a Sunday hangover even worse. Thanks.

You're doing the right thing by weaning yourself off the drug. Hopefully you have a doctor that's supervising this but if not, you sound like you are doing OK. If your gonna drink heavily, you shouldn't be on antidepressants anyway. I drank on antidepressants before and had blackouts. I weaned myself off of Zoloft for that reason. I don't drink anymore so I'm on Effexor now and I'm happy.

I had been taking lexapro for about 2 yrs. I stopped taking my Lexapro-10mg daily about 3 mos ago mainly for the same alcohol reasons. I started to wean myself by taking the meds everyother day. My worst side effect was feeling very weepy, and my best was how incredibly horny I was the week after I stopped all together. Not that my now fiance minded at all.

I have thought about going back on at different time because I felt like I didn't like the range of emotions that I was feeling, but I kept giving myself goals to meet on a weekly basis and I haven't taken any more since I stopped.

Good luck to you, hope you are doing ok.

Lexapro whacked me out! And yes, I did notice that it made alcohol affect me so much faster. If you don't think that you need the medication, don't take it! But, 2 months total really isn't very long to see if a medication is working. Most doctors will tell you that it could take up to 6 weeks of taking a medication for you to feel results. Best of luck!!

get off the dam drugs. The doctor is a quack looking for money. Take 5HTP and GABA. These are all natural supplements with no sideaffects. And also in winter time, take some Vit. D. Vit. D because the sun isn't out as much and when that happens people get moody. This Vit. D is a nutrient from the sun.
