Should the card opening be placed up or down in the envelope and should the front of the card face the opening or the back of the envelope? Does this rule apply for all cards, invitations, birthdays etc... or does it matter how the card goes in the envelope at all.

picture to the open flap (facing the reader). If no picture then the writing faces the reader
If a folded card, the open end always faces the top of the envelope - so it will not be cut when the envelope is opened.

Yes, it applies always and it applies to all cards

A card should be placed in the envelope with the folded side at the bottom no matter which way the card folds. Preventing any contents of the card from falling out when it is removed from the envelope. Also it should be placed in the envelope so that the front is toward the back of the envelope (the side that the flap closes on). After all they don't need to know or care how much you paid for the card. The other reason for this is because some cards have embossing on the front and if you place them in the other way you do not have a smooth surface when writing out the address or recipients name on the envelope. Hope this helps.

A card should be placed into an envelope so that the back of the card faces the same way as the front of the envelope, this way when you write the name on the envelope in prevents an imprint being made on the side of the card depicting the image.

Traditionally, if the card opens at the bottom (not the side) the opening of the card goes in first. The front of the card can be seen when the flap of the envelope is open. If the card opens on the side, the card is placed with the opening upwards toward the flap of the envelope, with the front of the card being seen with the flap of the envelope is open. When someone opens the flap of the envelope, they should see the front of the card facing them. Personally, I could care less which way the card goes, just as long as I get a card.

Different cards come in different designs and foldings too, but whatever the card is inside the envelope the front face of the card should be at the opening of theeenvelope always, that is a rule, and even if it is folded from top to bottom, still the front should face the opening, or from side to side or from left to right, no matter what, all cards shoud face the opening of the envelope, so when the time he or she opens, it is more comfortable, easy and correct...so that's it........

A card should be placed fold in last and facing the back of the envelope. When the person opens up the card and pulls it out, they see the front of the card then.

Right side up, with the front of the card facing towards you as you open the envelope from the back. The front of the card should face the back of the envelope, so that when the recipient pulls it out, that is the first thing they see.

The card opening should face up. Upon opening the envelope and removing the card, if there is something inside the card like money, you don't want it to fall out.
